Btw, I'm done yapping - all of Team Suck should have at least one new comment from me in their portfolio by now.
Things I learnt:
1. Team Suck is big.
2. You people have some damn interesting pictures hidden away in your portfolios |

Yep, we are. And yep, we do. Now you know why you belong. :)
Julianne's inspired me to share my two butterfly shots.
Julianne, congrats on your exhibition!
Could you and everyone else please explain how you learn about these competitions? I'm excited about how many of you are getting hung in real life. That would just be so amazing.
I woke up this morning to another kind of success. My grandfather called to say that he'd seen my recent prints of my girls (yes, color portrait and cell phone) that I'd sent to my Dad, and he was almost speechlessly in love with them. He requested his own copies. :) Hearing him react that way is better than any 10 ribbons on DPC!

Ok, I finally got my pictures for Pi taken. I just have to pick one and see if I can clean it up a bit. Tomorrow I hope to get my tri-thingy picture assembled.
Thanks for all the comments purpleflutterby13!

Hmm, ok. Second guess: it's quite a long exposure with a flash going off at the end, you had the camera on a tripod and rotated it to the right during the exposure, and the little lines come from small lights that randomly happened to be already in the graveyard? And the double outline of the graves comes from the fact you were still rotating the camera when the flash went off? Is that any closer? |

Jeffrey, you are lucky to have a grandfather, and what could be nicer than to have him approve and appreciate your efforts. I'm happy for you.
About the exhibitions -- I mostly learn about them by word of mouth, and sometimes in the newspaper. I have a few friends here that are artists and photographers. They are very good about sharing information. I don't belong to any camera clubs here, but I have friends who do, and they pass along information.
I watch the bulletin boards at the camera stores and library for fliers and announcements. Also our town has an Art in Public Places program. The town hall has exhibits as does the library.
P.S. Another way to find out about them is after the fact. When winners are announced or a museum publicizes an exhibition, I inquire about the entry process and timing for the next contest or exhibit.

Well I have no real good explanation for the stream of lights. The bright light was car headlights because it was pitch black. (Stupid me alone in the cemetary at 11 PM - lights stay on!) Camera on tripod and I have no doubt that I moved the camera but with the swirl of lights, I would have thought the grave markers would have been more blurry. I see three streams of light. And I had something turned off with my autofocus - need to see if that makes a difference later.
Needless to say, I have been waiting for a bright full moon and I am going back to see what else I can get.
I'd say tho that your cemetary shots were much more interesting lol. Thanks for sending me the background info!

Purple, you inspired me, so I followed behind you, adding my own comments to several you commented on.
Posthumous, seeing purple's mammoth task, perhaps it's time to clean out the non-active members? Maybe send 'em a PM asking whether they still want to be included?
Edited to add that I'd be happy to help. :)

Yep, I am. He's my dad's dad. Even more so, I still have my grandmother, too - mom's mom. Grandpa turns 93 in July and Grandma turns 91 in December. Both of them were redheads, providing the source for Amelia's fiery locks along with my wife's mom, who has auburn hair.
Funny thing about having a redhead kid - EVERYONE comments on it. It's rather incredible. My usual smartass answer is that it comes from my stepmother. Then I sit back and wait for the light to go on: "hey, wait a second ..." *cackle* At one point both Kendra and Amelia wished they could trade - Kendra wanted some attention and Amelia wanted to duck it.
The other funny note is that Amelia quite indignantly insists it's orange, not red. And of course, she's right. She knows her colors better than English convention! :)

Mysterious. If the car headlights were on the entire time, then either the graves should've blurred more, or the little lines of light shouldn't be that long... It's about as mysterious as my demon bunny really :) |

I'm confused. Why would the gravestones blur because the lights moved? I know shadows would move, but since they're black, I'd guess they wouldn't show up in a photo. But the stones themselves aren't moving.

Oh, were the lights moving? I thought the lights were still, and the trace was there because the camera moved. |

Not the headlights, they didn't move there are other strange lights in the background...

i took some cemetary pics for the night challenge because i thought it would be fun to do something different than a beautiful night shot of a city skyline. I mean, what fun is it to get pics of bright pretty lights??? lol
SO when I got home, I looked at this particular pic, , and was fascinated by the fact that there are three streaks of light in the photo. The markers in the front and the statue are slightly blurred, so it could be explained by me bumping the tripod (that would be no surprise). But I am one who would like to believe that possibly I captured some sort of spirit element. So that is why I plan on going back to see what I can get later.
Any other thoughts on the three streaks of light? Other than bad photography skills?

Were there small lights in the graveyard? Or was it completely dark?
On a similar note, here's the demon rabbit I captured in a graveyard :)
