BEWARE: Pointless rambling..
"What if the quality's worse then my p&s.. Wht if I I can't get it to focus.. What if the camera I choose turns out to be the worst ever... What if the second I buy it, a cheaper version comes out or the prices go down because of an upgrade.. What if I buy a camera that doesn't work well in low lighting and I realize my passion is nightshots...
Then you got the lenses, the wides, macros, telephotos, lens hoods, lens babies!? filters[what if I buy the wrong size for the wrong lens, is uv just pointless?],what f points to worry about..700mm, 200mm, 10mm !$%@ Image stablizing or not.. Is the glass good.. what if it gets scratched.. What if I drop it.. Down a deep, cavernous ravine.. Then what...What if I have the best shot in my life in front of me and I have the wrong lens with me?
Then there's the lighting to worry about., the strobes, meters, light boxes, external flashes.. Hell even they're into s&m... What if I can't do bracketing, saturation, infra, overlays
Nikon? Canon? Pentax? Sony?
What if the only outcome of upgrading is that I find out that I'm really just a bad photographer hiding behind the excuse of my equipment all this time..."
Paranoid much? ^_^ I'm completely mad!

What if tomorrow you die of a massive brain hemorrhaging?
It might sound tongue-in-cheek, but I'm actually being quite serious.
Not everyone needs to go to a DSLR system, of course, but if it's a path you want to take, you need to just jump and take it.
You might not be here tomorrow after all. |

If you don't feel ready for it, then stick with your Sony until you start to get frustrated with its limitations. Then, you'll know you're ready :-)

My 10D does everything now that it did when I bought it in 2003.
If a better camera comes out later, big deal. Enjoy the one you have. :)

And you think I haven't thought about that.. lol! oh yes I have.. My kidneys started hurting so much last week that I couldn't sit still.. and the first thought that came to my head was "but I haven't bought a dslr yet, I can't die.."

It might break. A little or a lot.
Originally posted by UrfaTheGreat: Down a deep, cavernous ravine.. |
Then it will most likely break, but you won't really know because it will be gone gone gone. Don't jump after it.

Then it probably won't be the best shot of your life.

lol! Nah! I don't like hearing it actually.. I like the idea of letting go of it.. Writing is the best way to get things out.. Verbally, I'm too... stoic... ridiculously calm... Imagine this on my livejournal.. It's giberish there.. Here, it's something.. people can make sense of the bits and pieces...
Now onto the SC bashing muwahaha! |

Sure, but I'm a little stuck on "what if grandma had balls?" Pretty much all I've got for that is "Yikes!"

That what I did. The Canon 20D came out and dropped the prices of the 10D below a grand. That's when I bought the 10D.
Sure, it doesn't have all the bells as whistles of the 20D, but you got to start somewhere. Now the 30D is out and my 10D is still working. |
