I was trying to work with layer masks. Please let me know what you think of the final version. Thanks.

You did a really good job on the mask, but for me the effect doesn't work well with the shot. I don't know if it is the oval frame on the horse's neck, or the black background. Actually I like the dof and background colors of the original.

Thanks for the input. Do you think a different background color would be better? |

Possibly stay dark but something light enough that we can still see the mane, I'm thinking.

I think dark would be good too, have you tried just darkening the background but not totally black, maybe just so you can see the background but not really well? just wondering. great shot on it's own. |

Ah, I know what it is... we just need some balance. Your shot/edit would look good in a frame with a white matte
I was playing with a vignette here but then added a white border and that gave it a completely different feel.
Again Lori try your shot with a white boarder.
For those wondering about the 2 second Vignette I used a freeware PS plug-in from Xero Graphics on a second layer, then a transparency brush on the ears and a bit on the mane. (Actually I use Digital Image Pro not PS but it uses PS filters just the same.)

I really like the way you did this edit. I will have to try this myself. It looks great. Thanks. |
