I saw it before the edit but didn't reply... I'm wondering why you would go with the Neotec legs for fast setup, yet use a geared head? Almost everyone uses ballheads for still photography work.

Should be a good setup though, those auto-extending legs are a prett cool idea. Takes some use to get the hang of them though.

Not so much for the quick set-up, but for other qualities:
vertical and horizontal mount
weight capabilities
independent leg positioning
ground level position
sealed legs (sometimes it will be set up in water (2 to 3 inches))
overall versatility in ability to adapt to any location (will be used for personal photography probably by me, but will also be in manufacturing environments where all three legs on the same plane will not be possible)

geared head:
all three axis are scaled in degree markings
although geared, two separate controls on each knob - one for degree at a time adjustment and one for rapid gross adjustment
precision adjustment
sturdy!

There will be times when a video camera will be mounted. With the short /wide lens it is 13 pounds, with the long lens it is 15.5 pounds. The ball heads I looked at and the two I tried in a store with the video camera were just not sturdy/stable enough. And with the video camera mounted it is actually easier to position it accurately and repeatably (is that a word?)

Due to the volumes of responses with all the excellent input/feedback/commentary, a decision was made.

Since so many were interested before I tho9ught I would post a follow up. I ordered the tripod with the geared head as shown in the link as well as a ball head. After playing around with both for two days, the ball head was returned today.

Ball head - advantage of lighter weight. Only one I can honestly think of. Was not as steady, was hard to adjust to a finite position with repeatability, did not support the video camera even with the short lens despite being rated to handle the weight.

Geared head - disadvantage of being slightly heavier. Only one I can honestly think of. Is extremely easy to use, adjustment is very fast (dual action knobs) and very precise and repeatable. Very steady. Easily handled the weight of the video camera with the long lens attached.
