This is a really petty question, but I work for some pretty petty people.

On the pc's here when I create a desktop shortcut to a webpage, some pcs show the icon that is assigned to the webpage, while others just have the generic IElogo.

Any idea what to do to get the webs icon to show up?

Thanks

Not all websites have icons. But, the ones that do should automatically drag onto your desktop. Try putting your pointer directly on the icon when you drag it. Should work.

I use Firefox in Windows XP pro. The web page icons never show up as the logo...just the Firefox item with the page title. I did notice if you right click on the desktop item you can go to Properties > Web Document > Change Icon...but after that you have to find the appropriate image--and there I can't help you. Seems like someone around here would know the answer.

(In Firefox itself, I often drag links to the Toolbar--there the logos always show up.)

I have a feeling it varies by Windows version and/or IE version.

Thanks for the replies.
I think eug is right, it depends on the windows IE versions.

Anyway...let them 'suffer' and deal with life without webpage shortcut icons! ;)

As MrEd said, it will depend on the website. The is a file call favicon.ico that has to be in the root of the website.

If the website doesn't have it, you can't do anything and doesn't matter either you use Ie or firefox.

You could just give the shortcut an icon like you could any old shortcut to a program.
