I got a membership expiration notice today saying that my membership expires in 21 days. I have had a great time on dpc, but I am wondering if it is time for me to move on? I am now creative enough for this site and do not know how to improve that.... and mostly just get fusterated alot when I do not score well. But I like the amount I have grown using this site as a crutch and wouldnt be as good as I am today (not saying im good, just improved) without it.

Im so torn, can anyone give some words of wisdom?

Thanks
Rich

If I go there will be troubuuuuuuul, if I stay it will be doubllllllle.

Stay, and apply yourself to learning new techniques, you can't get worse.... well, most likely ;)

Looks like you have some unfinished goals. It would be a shame to leave with out completing them. $25 to be a member of this place is the best and cheapest entertainment I get all year. I go to the movies with my girl it costs at least $30 and its over in 2 hours.

:-)

I think its really simple. If you have fun here, stay. If you don't, then go. Or maybe you need a break.. you can take that and then decide. Of course we'd all like you to stay, and not everything here is about how you do in challenges, or even entering them (though that can be fun from time to time).

Stay or go - personally, I think your camera is holding you back.

Oh Captain my Captain.... you've gotta stay!!! We're just gettin geared up for a new season!!! Just talking like that could be grounds for mutiny!!!!

GO! No one wants you here anyway!

sorry, I just always wanted to say that. Your asking a very biased group here - we wouldn't be here ourselves if we didn't enjoy this place so of course we think you should stay!

I'm only here because Art burned down my house, then told me he'd burn down the replacement also if I quit.

The thing that I like about this site, is not the scores, the voting, or the whole contest slant. Really, it is because it gives me repeated practice, gets me out to shoot when I wouldn't normally, and the great community/people.

If you go, can I have your dog?

I don't think I can give any advice about this, but why not join more challenges and have fun with creating photos, good or bad?

Thanks for everyones kind words, there was a now in the origional post I need to fix, I am not creative enough for the site. Usually a tend not to enter alot of the challenges becuse of this. I never really can come up with an idea for it, and if I do usually I think it is pretty horrible idea. So I mostly enter free study which I do pretty horrible in myself.

Art, Thanks for the chuckle. my little fisher price camera has done well for me and I like it. It was a good laugh.

Lee, I would leave you hanging, I wouldnt get a new membership and then fade away after WPL5. Of course basking in MVP status and the pirates as champions.

Its just in all honesty, I am starting to doubt the quality of my work and dont want to waste my time or anyone elses time on the website. I guess I just need to think about it and see what I really want to do.

Thanks again,
Rich

If you want to continue to grow, you are wasting noone's time by being here and participating.

Rich, you don't have to make your mind up for another 3 weeks. I think most people here have a time when they doubt themselves and their lack of progress. I have sat near the bottom since I joined up, I don't seem to improve, and that's one damn tall ladder to climb.

However, I too thought about moving on as I seemed to be going round in circles and getting nowhere. Then realised there was no pressure on me to do certain things. I just do my own thing, still submit rubbish photos, but every once in a while, something good comes along to get me interested again.

Anyway, I hope you stay and enter challenges when the topic excites you. Continue taking shots of what you like and enjoy the chats with members here. Good Luck, Steve

Everyone gets to their destination via a different path. If your goal is to progress and improve as aphotographer and an artist and you feel that you've stagnated on the site maybe it makes sense to take time and try a different approach. DPC is a wonderful community, a great place to learn, and a great place to get some feedback about your work. But it's not the only way, you shouldn't be afraid to try what ever you need to get where you need to be. I can't speak for all of us, but I enjoy your work, your comments, and your being here and hope you stay. Part of the fun for all of us is to see each of us travel along the journey too.

Hope this helps, Jack

hmhm.. yep, sorry.

the time I'm spending here is so little, comparing to, say, one year ago. I'm busy, and just don't feel like shooting "for fun" anymore, for now anyway.

But there is really nothing wrong with this site.......except for the ability to keep many of us interested enough to stay. ;-)
