By centering the main subject. ;-) |

I was hoping for my first 6 when I enetered this challenge..and looks like its on track and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Only hitch is that I am getting lots of DNMC comments. :(. |
How do you get a DNMC vote in a rule of thirds challenge? You didn't try to be subtle did you? If so... BIG mistake. :) |
Hmm..its not really subtle, but I left some space for the viewer to realise what the subject is.I had some outtakes which were obvious, but I chose this one...my bad. Thanks for asking. |

Went looking through a number of the entries- it seems a good percentage of them have the subject of interest much father to the side of the image rather than at the 1/3 position...Didn't people use grids to figure how to crop their images? |

As with everything else in photography, 1/3 is a very subjective measurement. Vote the photos on their overall Merritt and stop trying to scientize it. |

Normally no, but for this challenge, I used a 3x3 grid action to make sure my lines hit exactly on the thirds lines. Gotta keep some voters happy, ya know ;-)

I am not trying to 'scientize' this - I am suggesting that many of the photos are not really even close to positioning the subject of interest or prevailing lines even close to the thirds. If the challenge was - off centered composition I would agree - the concept here is to use the rule of thirds - and placing something at 1/4th or 1/5 from the edge really isn't following that. By the way, the images that are essentially at the thirds will score better due to MERIT because they usually look better - hence the point of the challenge (at least as far as I am concerned)

Dropped under 6.6 for a little bit there but made it back up. Where are you now Oliver and Enzo? |

Last night's started at 7.5 with 9 votes, so this is more like Timfy's, and I'm pleased. Lately I've been predicting my scores and have been deadly accurate, but not this time, hugely underestimated its appeal.

Drifting downward, but still solidly at my personal best. Thought I might break 6 for a while. Though a lot can happen in 6 days...
