You GOTTA check out this link I got from another thread, Jeb. I think it is a fantastic tutorial on the Rule of Thirds and other stuff too.

*grumble* I picked up even more editing stuff that I could've done to my Kitchenware entry. It's really grating on me - the file on my computer now looks so much better than my challenge entry... It's like it could've been near a 6 rather than in the low 5's had I looked through those tutorials before. Oh well, at least I can do stuff to future entries...
DPC certainly pushes you into a rapid learning curve, anyway :) |

It sure does, Purple! Look at my earliest challenge entries and see how I've progressed in a little under a year. Oops, gotta renew membership....
Scores unexceptional, mid-4s for both Hair and Kitchenware. Have a great idea for triptych and a nice sunny day to work with, just have to watch for shadows or the trolls'll get me. |

| Yep, that's a triptych! Now if you can get him at different angles with even more pronounced difference in facial expressions... Or go from further out to closer, to closeup. Something like that might work, too. Have fun with it! |

For my fellow suckees, here are some pictures from the Cathedral (Dom) in Cologne. This incredible structure took over 600 years to complete (something about lack of funds, for one thing), was left pretty much intact during WWII, houses the relics of the Three Wise Men, and has a cross that predates the beginnings of the Dom (1200 AD or so, I think it was) that was rescued from the previous cathedral when it caught fire.
It is very hard to do this thing justice (at least it was for me) in pictures. I've tried a bit of perspective correction using the transform tool, but as you can tell, it does tend to take away from both the top and the bottom of the shot to do so.
Should you ever be in Germany, I highly recommend a visit to Cologne to see this place.

I'm leaving for a business trip in the morning. Not sure if I'm taking the laptop or just a book this time. I'll be back Friday afternoon my time for a day and a half, then off again for almost a week. I will take the laptop on that journey since I still haven't edited anything for Free Study. So try not to get to where you have to start yet another new Team Suck thread while I'm gone, OK? I'll never find the place.... |

By the way, the camera's on manual settings here - maybe that helps with exposure of white things? |

Wouldn't exactly call it a eureka moment, but I did finally get an acceptable (to me) image, not for Thirds, but for Bubbles. I have a fifty/fifty chance of getting this right, but what the heck I'll make a forecast: this one will suck!
Kitchenware still hanging in juuusssst above 6, so no true sucking to note there.
Jeb, I have a (mostly) white cat too - I tried the sepia setting on my Rebel and got something passable.

We're totally jumping the gun, and fully expecting to be turned down entirely - but - hubby and I filled out an online application for a pre-approval for a $0 down-payment mortgage today.
We should be getting royally laughed at tomorrow sometime.
Wish us luck.

Just submitted a shot for bubbles. It's less than spectacular, I never quite got around to doing what I wanted to do... Team Minus should be proud of my general level of suckiness this week.
Although I'm really excited about Tryptich - I've got a really good idea, I just hope it comes out the way it is in my head... I don't expect that many people to get the concept, but if the pictures come out well, it doesn't matter too much. |
