monitor calibrated, how does this look?

So I went and got my SpyderExpress and ran the software and think I set everything right. I did get this message the first time.
"Sorry no calibration data was found in the profile "sRGB Color Space Profile" for display "Plug and Play Monitor." Please select a different profile using 'Profile Chooser'.(1168)"
But I found this info in a thread here and reran the software and i didn't get the message again.

Everything seems much darker then before, and this grid on DPC now blends together in the last three or so dark boxes.

but I can see all the gradations when looking at this monitor calibration tool.
So now everything appears dark, so I didn't know if there were other tips or if everything is fine and have been just editing too long on a whacked monitor. Here is a my FS shot which now looks too dark, and I adjusted it to how it looked before I calibrated, is the new version too bright or is it fine?
I will say that I had some prints done and my prints look like my monitor does now, as the prints were generally a little too dark.
Any advice would be great, or comment on the difference between photos.

The last boxes should be quite dark and they shouldn't be super easy to see against such a light background.

You should be able to see them all but it shouldn't be a glaring difference. It should be more subtle. If you put that grid on a dark background the differences between the darks will be much more apparent.

i'm not sure if my monitor is really well-calibrated either, but the new version of your picture looks fine on my screen. it doesn't look too bright and the old version looks tiny bit dark.

Thanks alot, just dragged the grid into PS and put it against a black background and I can easily distinguish all the boxes, looks like all my photos are apparently more dark and moody than I realized, haha. Now looking back at old entries I am pretty surprised they did so well.

EDIT:I guess I can remove my comment about your image that you removed, LOL. Thanks for the help, feel much better about calibrating now.

Both look ok, but in the bright one I can see a lot of grain on the benches. That grain wasn't as visible in the original.
