I'll tell you the best way to do that...pay for a membership and then do a speed challenge. I was runner-up for a brown ribbon on the "Changed" speed challenge (the heinous April Fool's Day one) and I still came in at #40. Yes, I know there were only 41 entrys but I can look beyond that.

AND YOUR ENTHUSIASM IS DEFINATELY CONTAGIOUS XD

Keep it up because being a newbie can be frustrating sometimes and it's always better to have fun!

Just a little note here from one of Team Suck's Novice sub-section serial non-achievers:

From Alan Pardew, manager (coach) of an english football (soccer) team that seems doomed to relegation -
The one beauty you have at the bottom, which you don't get at the top where you have got to win or you are out of it, is that teams around you still lose so it gives you another bite of the cherry.

Keep on nibbling, Beautiful-Joe...

I've noticed that there are alot of younger photographers here. It makes me feel like I'm not so alone. When I signed up I was thinking "Oh god. I'm going to be the youngest kid on the site." but I've seen several fantastic younger photographers. It gives me hope that maybe I'll amount to something someday. However, I doubt I'll get half as good as Joey Lawrence.. XD

there's alot of us Youngin's

Joe, top attitude you have there. Defintely listen to what the commentators say on your image, even if sometimes it comes across as a bit blunt & cutting. Slowly but surely you will start to build up confidence and work on shots a bit longer, then the nice comments start to creep in, and then your placing moves up the table. Next thing you know, you'll be knocking on the door of the top 10 spots. Thats when you have really arrived.

Keep it up and dont be afraid to ask advice on the forums.

Heh.. I doubt I'll ever be that good.
But I'm going to keep trying.

&I have a pretty crappy attitude when I'm upset.
XD
Believe me.

But you guys made me feel good about myself.. Even if I do suck a bit..
XD

I have a crappy attitude when I'm upset too. Sometimes I get discouraged at myself for letting myself feel that way. But overall, I think more than that is important, it's important to be trying, know what I mean?

Yes, of course.
Success is rarely possible without effort.

I'm learning fast.
Everyone is so darn helpful here, I can hardly believe it.
And I was oh so worried I'd get eaten up by the professional sharks.
My scores stink, but I haven't given up yet.
;)

The Pros are very helpful. As well as most everyone here. However the opposite do exist and from time to time you will get a negative remark on a perfectly good photo, I have a few photos that must have really upset the viewers as the comments are negative and when I look at their profile I see that they signed up the day they made the comment and that my photo was the only comment they ever made. I check back on these people from time to time and see at least 2 that to this day that have no other activity in their profiles other than the comment they left for me.

Anyway Ignore those negative comments especially if they are mixed in with a batch of positive comments. If you get a handful of negative comments on the same image then you could or will learn something from that.
Good Luck and keep up the efforts they will pay off.

I've never gotten a real negative comment.
Just people giving me advice on improvement.
There was only one comment I ever got that didn't make a great deal of sense.
Someone commented my first entry saying that it sucked, but not telling me what sucked about it. Also confused the heck out of me saying it was irrelevent. I actually thought I had entered the wrong challenge for a moment.
XD

I was skeptical when people told me this was a learning site.
Looked like pure entertainment to me,
but now I am seeing where the learning is coming in.
I've already learned alot compared to what I knew before.
And I still have such a long way to go.

Joe, you should check your email. ;-)
04/24/2007 02:13:03 PM · #41
I've been wanting to do that all day.
Unfortunately I'm at school and they have some cruel nazi device that prevents people from accessing email and web messengers and all of that.
Only a couple of hours until I get home though.
I promise I'll check it then.

Now I'm curious.. =P

Hey Joe -

I'm a newbie too, and your saying "I've never gotten a real negative comment" made me go back and check on mine...

I've got to agree. There were certianly criticisms of my pics, some quite blunt, but nothing meanspirited. In general I feel like there's a great balance of people saying nice things (and making me feel like I can do this) and people offering critiques (making me know what I need to do to improve, in one person's eye at least).

Anyway, I'm having fun too.

Yes.
I am blue.
I had two different people send me thingies.
But they didn't know that they both did it
but now they do
so it works.
XD

I am very very VERY happy tonight.
=D
Just started putting things in my portfolio.
I have a craving to take pictures just to put them in.
XD

=3
I'm in a VERY good mood.
Thanks to certain people..
