I took some portraits of my kids for my mom's birthday present. I was pretty happy with the results.
Since I am planning to focus my business on childrens portraits, I was hoping to get some feedback.
Take a look at these and please let me know what you think.

Numbers 2 and 3 are beautiful! I think a grandmother might like number 8. Actually, I like all of them, except the b/w don't show off the children's beautiful hair and skin colour. Good pictures!

I like all the colour ones, particularly the ones with the girl with the amazing hair. The ones with the boy on his own seem all close in losing the top of his head.

thanks....
Do you not like how the shots with the head cropped look? I do that on purpose. I tend to take tight shots.
By the way, the girl with the amazing hair is Meggie Gee(Megan) - she participates here.
My son is Tyler.

Terry I think these shots are fabulous. I like both the color and b&w. The hair is fantastic!! Woman pay $$$$ to get that color and never come close. :) Great looking family.
The crop is different, and I think it works here. For me anyway. Nice work. |

Too start off, I'm not a professional nor due I pretend to be.
I like #3.
I think you may want to capture a little of the background otherwise it looks like you can achive the same results in the studio.
It also looks like some of the smiles are forced..
I want to make it clear, like I said before I'm not a profesional. |

I really like number 8 reminds me of a little brother standing behind his big sister going hehehe hahaha bunny ears and all that good stuff. It just looks so natural big sister being prim and proper and little brother trying to torture her.
Have you ever noticed if we all put our kids together we could have one fantastic child modeling agency...oh Drew how about a DPC modeling agency next...lol |

thanks everyone...
actually in #8 Tyler was on Megan's back, so it was a pic with natural, fun smiles.
My kids have actually modeled on and off since Meg was a baby. I just finished new comp cards for Ty's agency. I figured if I get them photos he might actually get some work. He does mostly school textbooks. So if your kids have Silver Burdett(now Pearson Learning) textbooks, and some others that I don't remember the names of, look for my kids!

What agency did you get to represent them? |

They are with a modeling agency 'Meredith Models' in NJ. My son used to be with a Manager and I used to run in NY with him on a weekly basis. Movie, commercial, TV auditions, the works.....
If anyone wants to know more about the process, just PM me.....

Oh believe me I know the entire process. My little boy did the pageant scene for a while and did some modeling but as hard as it may be to believe he hates being in front of the camera and would only work with two photographers, so we gave up on him doing modeling for now anyhow. Although he still talks about when he did the pageants. He loved the spotlight, just hated the photo session. |

Terry,
I like all of them. The close up what are good but maybe to close. I would like to see all of their head and shoulders. You did good at bluring out the background. The only thing I find wrong in some of them is the lighting. What did you use for the lighting? It seems a bit bright. Good job!!!

sonifo-
I used different lighting on all of them. Some are just the natural light(taken in the shade during the day), some have a fill flash, and for a few of my son's I used a gold reflector(his were taken later in the day-better conditions).

I like the kids but it seems as though they are all taken from above the level of the kids. Perhaps you did that deliberately but I'd like to see some taken at their level rather than pointing down at them. |

Actually most of them were at eye level. I never take shots from below, because it is not a flattering angle to shot from. But I do take from above or at eye level.
Some of the problems may come from the fact that these were taken a few days before my back surgery(last week) and I could't bend to different levels- it's either on my knees or all the way up! I'm hoping that in a few months from now I can do more!
