Here's my Circle II entry:
The chain bugged me because it wasn't exiting at the corner (I didn't have the chance to reshoot). I cloned it out and asked the SC if it was okay, and got a reasonably sure answer it was, but not locked down, so I didn't do it in my entry.
But I'm curious what others think.
So here it is with the bottom part of the chain cloned out. Aside from minor cloning mistakes, which do you prefer?

I like it better without the chain. |

OK, for what it's worth i like the "out take" took from above then the one without the chain, however your submited shot is cool and this judgement is only made after doing a side by side comparison.

To be honest I prefer the chain. It gives my eyes something to follow all the way up. The other one is nice but then my eyes look a your picture and I think another chandelier with a stair shot. |

With the chain, definitely. |

I perfer the shot with the chain. It creates a nice line for my eyes to follow.

I agree with JenniferDavidGA. The chain leads the eye into the spiral and toward the lights. It gives the image greater depth.
I suggest leaving it in. |

With the chain, for reasons of depth touched on in a previous comment. |

To me, the one with the chain feels more balanced. |

The no chain shot is better in my opinion, only based on the fact itin adds an unecessary dimension to the photo and takes away from the effect as a whole.

I'd have thought it a no-brainer that the chain is a distracting element that greatly interferes with the elegant curves and simplicity of the rest of the composition but there is obviously disagreement with that view. :)

The one with the chain guides my eyes right up the middle. I find it pleasing. The one without the chain I end up wandering aimlessly about the image. I like both. But the one with the chain definitely "yanks my chain".

*laugh* I see I've found the usual DPC unanimity. :)

Wif! And here's why;
Without the chain, my eye tries to follow the spiral. But it's not complete, because of the angle, so my eye gets lost and wanders off.
IF the shot was more directly up, allowing the spiral to complete, THEN I'd like it better without the chain.
Make any sense? :) |
