I'm with glad2badad and say nylon or other fabric over the lens.

looks like the reflection in a window or on something with polished stainless maby to me.

it is a relection on a dark car, with vasiline on the lens, a stocking over the fogged lens cap as it is flipped through the air?

Actually I was going to say reflection too but was looking at the parting of the hair and wondered if that would give it away...don't most men part it on the left...guess it just depends.

Its a 100% crop from a shot captured 2 miles away! :)

The shot was taken through dark tinted windows.

You stepped out of an air conditioned car on a warm day and your lens fogged up? The high ISO could account for the grain.

I dunno what else was done... but that f/32 didn't help things any.

and the answer is...

last weekend, i had the fortune to meet edward holland and he lent me a lens to play around with.

so, it was 'pinhole' and i was (sorta) 'shooting through a lenscap' and there was 'something over it': his pinhole had a piece of film with microscopic concentric circles etched in it!!!

he had some unreal stuff that he shot with it. basically, you just push your iso up as far as it will go. the f-stop is 'estimated' to be f/32, the shutter is actual.

also, if you visit his gallery, please note, most of his finishing is done in-camera. he's recently made the jump to digital (and is loving his canon 5D), but as best as i can remember, all the stuff in his online gallery is from film.

his stuff absolutely rocks...and it was mind-blowing to see them all LARGE.

skylercall, that 4th landscape was shot with the pinhole lens. the print i saw was in color, and felt like floating through a dream...

waz, i couldn't agree more. i could hardly get to the landscapes, the portraits were so, um, captivating ;-)

Doesn't Joey talk about shooting through a lens cap in this picture?

how did you get to shoot with holland? he is one of my favorits. I shoot a lot of pinhole stuff, and I have a holga lens mod for my cannon too. I make them all myself, pretty easy when you think about it...

I'm sorry if it offends his style but it sucks. In my opinion there is no one who would buy such a photo .... but some would just because of the name of the photog. I see nothing of value, expertise or quality. Sorry Skip but stick with your own lenses, he can learn from you ;)

Edit: I see most of his work is much better and is indeed good, this "pin hole" lens needs to go to the dump ;)

I'm trying to understand why you're so happy with the shot, Skip. I'm not commenting on Edward Holland because I haven't seen his stuff.

I'm really being sincere here, not sarcastic. What about your shot turns you on? Help me understand.

Thanks! :)

should be noted that the portrait gallery on his website might not be work place safe.

<---going back to look at landscapes...WOW! Totally amazing stuff here. Would I be correct in saying some of this is infrared or is that just part of his technique? I am really amazed.

Dustin, you will one day live long enough to understand that being grown up has nothing to do with age. :)

wow man, those are harsh words. I'm not sure if you ever have seen any pinhole images besides this one but for some of us it really does some amazing things. check these out,

check this out

pinhole is something you either love or hate. I think anyone who actuly does it, and does it right couldn't help but love it.

Put me in the "can't stand it" camp. I suppose it's like "fine art" ... I just don't get it.
