| Is there anyone who considers this lens optically superior to the non-IS version. I know there are people who hold that the opposite is true... |

I don't think you'll see the difference between the two. I'd get IS version.

| Theres no way you'll be able to tell a quality difference whether its better or worse. Get the IS if you can afford it. |

the non is has better flare control and less CA (both don't have much CA though). Sharpness wise it's too close to tell.

| Just got mine last Thursday (4-19), and all I could say is "get the IS"...don't have enough money? just wait until you have enough $$$ for it. IS will make your life a lot easier, you'll love it. |

If you look at the head-to-head comparison it looks like the non-IS has the advantage at the 70mm end while the IS has a slight advantage at the 200mm end (at f/2.8).
In the real world I'm not sure you will be able to tell the difference.

Mine arrives tomorrow...about 11:15 if the UPS guy is on time. I got the IS version. I can't sleep!

You're going to love it. Especially given that you do so much wedding work. It's a wonderful lens for low-light candids. I love how the long focal length flatters the subject, and the bokeh is beautiful. |
