Last night a friend gave me a link to the 2007 Pulitzer Feature Photography winner's work, it is beautiful, so very sad, I sat here for a long time in silence and in tears.
Awarded to Renée C. Byer of The Sacramento Bee for her intimate portrayal of a single mother and her young son as he loses his battle with cancer.

Must have been an agonizing assignment to shoot. Very powerful and very well done. I'm going to hug my daughter tonight too. |

Our best friends when we lived in Grand Falls, Randy and Nadine's daughted passed away 2 weeks ago. She was only 2 1/2 years old. She had a rare disorder, Leigh's Syndrome, and could no longer eat by her mouth. She had a tube placed directly into her stomach to feed her. She could no longer keep food down, and was losing weight. The doctors told them on a Monday that they could no longer do anything. The parents and the family spent the next week rocking and cuddling her until she passed away on Sunday.
Now that was heavy. :(

Yes to some of them...but I bet for most it was a thrill to see such love and to be able to catch his pure joy in the midst of such pain. Wonderful series...seriously almost cried. If I hadn't been at my desk at work I might have.

xxx scarlett I hope this puts your infantile rant about not winning a ribbon into perspective now.
jacko, you know I was thinking the same thing about telling work I am off home and going and spending the afternoon with the kids, take em down the park and just kick a ball about for a few hours.

Absolutely Brings one down to earth. Incredible story, Cyndie is an amazing woman. I can never imagine the pain of doing such a thing. Im sure this series of photographs effected the photographer as well in quite a big way.
YES I cried too ... who wouldn't |

It is a testimony to the power of photography that here I am
crying my eyes out after having seen a series of photos of a dying
child that I've never met before. I doubt that mere words or even
video would have packed such a powerful emotional punch.
