It's time for me to add some more RAM to my Inspiron 9300. Currently it has 1 gig, but I want to add a 2 gig stick. I believe the current RAM is PC2-4200, but I don't know where to look to see if this is the fastest that the machine can utilize.
Can anybody help and point me to what they think the best available would be on, say, NewEgg?

Thanks guys. One question that is probably obvious, but not quite to me. Is PC5300 better than PC4200?

Two suggestions of varying usefulness:
1. THIS site
2. A battering ram (couldn't resist) |

It will physically fit. I doubt you would notice any real world difference in performance, though. Kind of like using premium gas in a car that only requires regular. |

He will see absolutely no speed increase by using faster memory. PC4200 and PC3500 specify the max speed the memory is capable. Dell will have installed the fastest memory the chipset will support. It makes no difference what speed it is. Just buy the fastest available (within reason) and it will cover all the bases. The cost difference is negligible. |

I got 4200 just to keep it the same as what was in there before...
