Iâm completely amazed by the photographic beauty of the movie 300. Another relatively closely based on one of Frank Millerâs graphical novels - like Sin City.

So, I tried to emulate the 300 Style. Here is my approach:

Start:
1. Screen capture from âThe Making of â300â the movieâ (without any editing), and dropped the blue background.
2. Choose a dramatic sky from google search.
3. Merged both pics to create the starting image for this try.

The key is:
1. Convert the image to B&W.
2. Apply sepia tone (Itâs very important the sepia tone applied. It will give the mood to the pic)
3. Duplicate the original image and put it on top layer to recover the colours. For blending mode choose Soft light, Multiply or Overlay.
4. Add some noise.
5. Play with Brightness and contrast.

And here is the before and after versions:

Editing steps:
- Added adjustment layer â Channel Mixer, Red=0, Green=0, Blue=100, Monochrome=Check.
- Added adjustment layer â Photo Filter, Filter=Sepia, Density=100, Preserve Luminosity=Check.
- Duplicate the background image and move to the top layer. Blending mode=Soft Light. And added some noise (Menu Filter, Noise, Add Noise, Amount=2%, Gaussian, Monochromatic.
- Added adjustment layer â Brightness/Contrast, Contrast=5.

If you find a better workflow for the â300â Style, please feel free to post it here.

looks great! I have a quick question though, how did you drop the blue background to cleanly replace it with your dramatic sky?

There are some specialized tools for dropping blue, green and orange backgrounds. I used Menu Select, Color Range in PS.

Nice work! The editing style should be called "Spartanizing", IMO.
