AARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!! My Powershot S2 IS has fallen prey to the dreaded E18 error...it wouldn't be so bad, but this is the second camera it has happened to.

My first camera (powershot A80) also got the E18 error, but I was very rough with it. It got drop kicked by a horse, rolled it sand, got water on it, got baked and frozen in harsh weather, and had superglue spilled on it. It suprisingly still works, but it got the error after some sand got in the sensor and now it only works when it decides it wants to. I didn't bother getting it repaired because I was ready for a new camera anyway and THOUGHT I'd be safe with a newer model.

Ugh, guess I was wrong. I've been very careful with my S2 IS, but unfortunately it fell off of my friends couch (1 ft drop at most) in February and has been acting weird ever since. Then today when I'm shooting for the landscape challenge, it just all went to hell. The lens won't go back in at all and it won't shoot anything either.

Luckily my A80 was having a good day and I just used it to finish shooting, but now I have to get my S2 IS repaired, and I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I assume I pack it and send it to Canon, but I was looking thru the box it came in and realized that I never shipped the warranty (OOPS!). Can I still send it even though it's been 7 months since I bought it? If I don't send in the warranty, how much do you think will it cost? Can I get this done somewhere locally for less and at the same quality?

...omg, so frustrating...can't wait till I get a SLR that doesn't have a retractable lens...grr.

Why so you can break the lens the first time you drop it. The lens itself costing more then the 95% of the powershots on the market?

...hmm, somebody is a little pessimistic maybe?

It's my money and I can do what I want with it. Unless you feel like answering one of my questions I suggest you take yourself elsewhere where it might be possible for you to be less rude. Have a nice day.

I don't think they mind if you didn't send in the warranty card but they WILL want proof of purchase, so you need either a receipt or a credit card record of some kind. Your best bet is to call them and ask them where they want it sent and what you need to send with it. There's an 800 number on the website, if I recall. I had an issue with my cheapie 50mm lens and that's what I did. They took a printed copy of my online receipt from B&H as proof of purchase, too.

Thanks. So I guess I'll call them tomorrow and when I send it I'll just put the warranty and receipt in the package? Oh well, I'm just so nervous about mailing my camera...hopefully they will be kind :)
