That's not because they are being phased out, it's a size issue and the "latest" Nikons you refer to are all meant to be as tiny as possible. |

What?!? There is no way you are telling me that a CF Card will plug directly into a PCMCIA port. |
The adapter for a type one slot is only a length adapter. Same for the Apple Newton's which could use PC Card Memory or CF. So if the slot is full length then no. But it will jack directly into a PCMCIA port itself.
Theres a difference between a adapter and a reader. My bad should have mentioned that. My last laptop doesnt even have usb on it. |

I've got several sd cards - digicam, phone and PDA....and now I'm getting a dslr that uses cf. Bent cf card pins worry me a little, so does anyone know of a cf card adapter that can hold sd cards? Then I could leave the cf card adapter in the camera and just pop in an sd card. Much reduced chance of bent pins and I can use my other devices sd cards in an emergency.
Just a thought. |

All new Canon and Nikon P&S cameras are SD. The Canon 1D Mark III can use CF or SD.
I'm sure CF will stick around a few more years in many new DSLRs as many DSLR users have a big collection of CF cards and they may not want to upgrade to a camera if it means they have to buy all new memory too.
Sure smells like a phase out to me. |

SD cards are too small. For the fat fingered amoungst us, they are too easy to drop and lose, especially if outdoors!
Now, when you have a CF card in your hand, you KNOW it is there. They are also a LOT easier to see in your camera bag or feel in your pocket etc...
I recently bought a Micro SD card for my Wifes phone - I swear if I had sneezed, it would have been blown away forever! Those things are TINY! |

Well done LoudDog! I had searched for the things, but I found nothing - thought they did not exist, until now! Cool.
Now all I want to know is how easy it would be to take the sd card out without removing the cf adapter. If it is easy then I'll get one. Could be a good solution for point'n shooters who want to get a dslr that only reads cf cards.
