Way back before digital, I had a 35mm p&s camera and the shutter button was red, well my cockatoo found it one day. I saw it in the bottom of his cage and thought huh wonder what that is...didn't make the connection for about a week (long after it was trashed). Ended up putting a thumb tack in the spot and it fit perfect, little tape over the top to keep it there and was back to shooting again.

If I was going to make one, it would look like this.
:P
Yours looks cool though, ssodell. So what was your total bill at Radio Shack? |
You gave me a good idea :)
I wanna make this lol: Gun trigger thingy |
Ha, I'd be careful with that...cops may think it's real and use their "remotes"--ones that look like Art's ;) |

Yeah you have to find out which contact goes with AF or Shutter. Then the other of the three is ground for both. There is the tip, the ring and the sleeve (TRS connector). I think I plugged the connector in the camera first and touched the variation of the three together. You can buy the TRS connector without a cord on it. Then write down what happens with each orientation and solder it in or use a step down extension like the second one I made with a new cord already terminated. Now after being in school for two years in Electronics I think I would put a resistor in line so it is not just a short circuit. But hey it works every time, so I think it is just a short. Never taken a real one apart, though I would still like to.
PS- if you want to have Sport action autofocus when the lens follows the subject you need to hook up an SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) switch. Which allows you to lock the auto adjusting focus connection one way. When the switch is the other way the signal goes through the push button allowing you to focus each time once and it locks to one focus depth.

Ok, I found an old pic of a control center box I built when I was 16. I was a Radio Shack nut and built all kinds of things for some usually dangerous fun. Then I got a job at an electronics assembly warehouse and could get all kinds of goodies at cost. Like a kid in a candy store. :)
This box controlled all the lights in my bedroom, including the strobe light, the color wheel light and also a black light. It also controlled lights in a secret "party room" I had that was accessed through a crawlspace in the closet. I used a power supply from my little brother's train set to light the switches. Look at the amount of friggin wires I had hanging off the table next to my --- yes, my waterbed. LOL
Ahhh, brings back memories. ...actually maybe they're flashbacks. |
