I'm going to be the second photographer at a wedding on Saturday and am debating on if I should buy a battery grip tomorrow after work. Do you think I can get an entire Wedding shoot done without having to change batteries when using one? Are they pretty comfortable?

What would you say? Should I get one? Yay or Nay?

I've read some negative comments about the feel of it, but haven't held one myself though. I'd recommend trying it out if you can find it at a camera store. I don't think you'll need it for a wedding though. If you look at every picture you take on the LCD in depth, it'll wear out faster of course. If you have a second battery in reserve you should be fine.

I don't have one, but I know alot of people here reccommend them. personally, I just put my pinky on the bottom and go for it. If you are worried about battery life, I would have two charged batteries atleast and bring your charger, if for nothing else it is back up. I always carry two batteries, and if you bring your charger, you can charge one while you shoot with the other.
Nay on the Grip, Yay on the extra battery.

have one / put it on once
IMO
d100 felt better with the grip & it added more functionality
d200 - its just a battery holder

nay
(but buy the extra battery or two ;)

I do have battery grip and can̢۪t live without it since I bought it.
Two batteries in a grip last about 6 gigabits worth of pictures and I check on LCD almost every picture I take. Just recently I was trying to take it off to reduce weight a little and found that camera doesn̢۪t feel right in my hand anymore without the grip.
Yay on the grip and ... extra battery

I fully agree...I think it adds a really nice balance and it also doubles your battery life. I did a fashion shoot for my son's new fashion line (www.miiif.com) and had to shoot for 5 hours and was pretty tired as it was heavy. My arm was killing me the next day! But it was great to have all those features as well as a vertical shutter and other controls.

Highly recommended...you can always take it off for when you want to travel light. I thought I would, but never have since I got it 12 months ago.

Then of course there is the ego factor... ;-)

I own a battery grip and would say (coming from the D2H) that it is the best thing to get.. extra battery power and the buttons to hand also.. GET ONE NOW!

Definitely not the same build quality as the camera itself but still worth it IMO.

I use it intermittently. If I have a lot of portrait framed shots to shoot I leave it on.

I have one because I do a lot of portrait orientation shots and it's nice having the vertical release for those. With 1 battery I was always worried about it running out, but with 2 batteries I don't think about it. I wouldn't recommend it if you feel weight and bulk are issues, and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't do much portrait orientation work.

I have the battery grip as well and I love it. I would recommend it. As others have stated, its great to not have to worry about changing batteries out while shooting a lot. I also really like the feel of it when shooting portraits. The only downside IMHO is that it does add a little extra weight. Get it, you wont regret it.

Wow, so many great comments. Thanks for all the advice! I am 98% sure I will be getting one on my lunch break tomorrow. :-)

I bought one for my rebel and haven't taken it off. Double battery life and vertical buttons so I don't have to lean sideways or twist my hands anymore or raise one arm over my head, I just do a quick twist switch with the camera in my hands. And when I hold it vertical there is nothing in the way of my nose when looking through the viewfinder, so it fits right up against my eye giving me a better look-see.
