"GRAPHIC" is right! This going to haunt me now everytime I get up close and personal with my alligator subjects.

For some reason the phrase you got to hand it to him is stuck in my head.

Kinda sad the croc is living hand to mouth

I've heard of biting the hand that feeds you, but... yeesh!

I didn't realize that a croc could actually "bite off" a limb. I thought they did most of their damage by latching on and then shaking and ripping. Sorry to be so graphic, but would it be possible to re-attach a limb under those conditions?? Sheesh.

I dunno, a human arm is so much more puny than say the leg of a wildebeest. Probably a lot easier than we think to rip one off.

Apparently so. If the worker reached through iron bars, the croc would only have to grab on and twist. Of all people, you'd think a vet would be a little more careful about making sure the animal was tranquilized! Since the croc didn't swallow the arm, it could have been playing a prank rather than looking for food... maybe he just wanted to try something humerus?

If you look at the picture it looks quite ripped to me...

I am also amazed they are able to reattach it. I guess what we don't get to see is how the rehab goes and how ultimately his arm functions after this. I doubt it's going to be "like new". I doubt it's even gonna be in "pre-owned" quality.

Sorry if this seems a graphic description. but the article did say the vet reach his hand in through the bars. It's entirely possible that the croc DID thrash about and the bars acted as leverage to tear the arm off.

According to the article, they had to shoot the crocodile to get the arm back, but missed (geez, how bad was THAT guy's aim)?

@ Strangeghost: I assume it was a different person doing the shooting since the vet was unarmed.

I'm keeping this thread at an arms length!

Apparently, that wasn't sufficient for at least one person. He was still in arm's way. ;-P

The vet should have known how dangerous a crocodile can be. If he didn't know that the croc was dangerous enough before, he can clearly see that it is now armed and dangerous.

If he had made a move, I would've done a Chuck Norris on him. There were no bars to hold me back.

No holds barred, huh? Probably a little easier to do with a gator. I'm sure you'd have to reconsider if you were in de Nile.

I like how you inply that puns count as a degeneration from a horrible attack. I apologize for derailing the thread. I'd like to hand it back intect, but, well... you know. ;-)

Everybody seems to think that what I did was dangerous. What a croc, ugh, I mean crock! The only thing that the alligator might have gotten a hold of was my camera. That gator was less that half the size of the crocodile in the story and was just as scared of me. He turned tail and retreated a couple of times. I think the only reason that he came back and hung around was because he is used to getting fed by the airboat passengers.
