This is the original of a photograph I did as part of Becky's modeling portfolio. I don't know if she is going to use it but I really have no clue what to do with post processing. I feel that if I try something it'll mess it up and I am not sure how to go about making this more effective because I love the shot so much already. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

If you love it so much, then keep it as is. :)
I might try to lighten up the dark shadows. Even if you don't like the end result, here's a trick to learn for later:
1) Create a new layer
2) Set the blending mode to "soft light"
3) Paint pure white in that layer over the areas you want to lighten
4) Reduce the opacity until it looks good.
Alternatively, you can use a heavy Gaussian blur on the new layer, but that's not reversible.
You can see an example of how much you can do with my color portrait entry:

had you thought of using shadows and highlights to slightly bring up the dark areas. Not too much though.
Minor amount of shadows and highlights. Then used a very odd USM that i used to remove the whiteness caused by raising brightness and also helps darken/enrich certain areas.
Shadows
15
50
30
USM
Amount 10%
Radius 50 Pixels
Threshold 0
You can up the shadows a bit more or run it twice. The usm if u clock on and off preview at those settings helps darken areas that would seem to be whitish from raising shadows.

How about a slight rotation to the left with a black and white treatment of the image:

nice terry gives a nice emotive feel. A full size edit should yield good results. WHat is your black and white technique? I use a gradient map does alot better then desaturate. Some people tone map. |

Shoot, I meant to post this but I've already closed the file. I used CS3's B&W Adjustment Layer and adjusted each of the colors to where I liked it. That's one of my favorite new features of CS3 ... and I'm not even a big B&W fan! :-)

------Original------------Color------------B&W--------500K animation-
Brought some detail out of the shadows, did a color match on her tube top to reveal the blue, cleaned up the eyes a touch, light highlight dodge on her hair to bring out the detail a bit, and in the black & white, lightened her left side/face a bit, converted and added a slight warming filter/tone.
(the animation is just for fun to see the original and 2 edits)
