Sorry, he wouldn't count :)
from the site I posted; "elephants, hyraxes, and sea cows - collectively called the "paenungulates" ("almost ungulates")"

But apparently dolphins DO class as ungulates.... go figger!

Nobody with a pet goat in their backyard? Cow? Giraffe? Well, maybe not a giraffe....

I think for this challenge, AlexSaberi might have a weeeee edge, no? :)

Aw, but if you read further it says that the term eventually came to include elephants as it ultimately referred to all hoofed mammals.

On another site elephants & others are also referred to as sub-ungulates.

Yeah, it's become really confusing, since it's not a real taxonomic designation any more, as they've learned more about the various hoofed mammals. Lol, can you just imagine the DNMC nazis pulling their hair out over this one? ;)

But I'd still love a shot at it! :D

LOL - yes, they'd have a field day with this subject.

I would have preferred ungulates over insects - where in the heck to do I find an insect when it is practically still winter?

(Spiders don't count!)

I have the same problems, the only insects I have been able to find are stuck to the front of my Camaro from last fall :P (didn't get a chance to completely clean it before storing it for the winter)
