This afternoon I went in the yard to shoot Scissortails that were flying around. As I started to setup to shoot, I heard a screech and several loud bangs. I ran to the front yard to see what was going on to find a SUV flipped on its side in my yard. A lady had ran off the road on one side and try to correct herself and ended up jumping the ditch on the otherside, going airborn and flipping her car. I put the camera down and ran to the car with my son to help. She was on the door on the bottom side. She was concious but kept blacking out. We saw a car seat and immediately starting tearing the windshield out to check for a child and get her out of the car. Thank the Lord she was the only one in the car. A nurse was driving by and stopped an helped us get her out of the vehicle. She will be fine. A few cuts and bruises. I have been enjoying my month off after retiring and had just finished welding up the fence. Oh well, no kids in the car and she should be ok.
Pictures are not processed but here are a few.

Hey, maybe you can get her insurance company to pay for a fancy new fence ;)
Good thing you weren't shooting in the front yard in her path, tho'! |

Congratulations on being a hero, James... again. :)

No hero's here. Again? My son was the first to the car. (Younger, faster) The car was smoking but as soon as he saw the car seat, he starting tearing the windshield out. Made me proud to see him willing to help someone in need. |

I say "again" because military service is hero-duty indeed.

Thank you. I did it for the ladies:) (Man in uniform thing) And by the way, after reading your thread and commenting about your broken toe, I had an accident with the door jam and broke mine. Thanks. |

I was supposed to start today, but I got a call saying that my background check came back saying that I had a criminal record and that I was an African American. You can't make this stuff up...life is too funny. I have another interview Friday with the hospital for a network analyst position and I have applied with the FAA as well.

wow - that would qualify as an eventful evening.
But I cannot let the medic side of me not say this - never move a person out of a vehicle unless it is on fire! She could have had a spinal injury in which moving her could paralyze her for life. Best to wait for medics to arrive. I'm surprised the nurse who showed up on scene helped remove her from the vehicle. |

Well your fence can always be replaced...
Im glad to hear that you dropped your camera first... sad to think that some people would take pictures first, then see if everyone is ok.

She stood up and started to climb out on her own once we torn the window out. We just helped to make sure she didn't hurt herself any further. As soon as she got out we put her in a blanket and layed her down. She needed the blanket because she had on a little black nighty thingy. And I am not making this up. It was a very strange event. |

James, this is the most interesting post I've read in awhile. First the car crash. Then the black nighty thing. And your background check is just too funny!! Somehow you should be able to prove you're not African American, I'd think.
At any rate, very much appreciate the tales, and keep on enjoying retirement for as long as possible! |

The clerk helping him smiled and said: "I have good news and bad news." Richard said; "give me the good news first." Clerk said; "I found out why all your appointments were canceled." Richard said; "What's the bad news?" Clerk said; "Apparently you are dead!"

Great record keeping we have. This is hilarious. I better call in the morning to make sure I am still alive. |

Glad everthing turned out okay... I remember the time a school van overtook my dad's car to cross the lights and flipped over instead, right in front of us.. It was raining like crazy so that was a really bad move.. We barely missed them.. there were no kids in there so that was a relief..

Just got a call from the young ladies father. She was sent home last night after being treated for minor scrapes and bruises. They had to remove some small glass pieces from her side, but other than that she is doing fine. A bit sore for awhile. Now she just has to worry about her insurance and the DUI. Stupidity never ceases to amaze me. |

DUI? - You didn't mention that part... :-/ |

The DUI might help explain her attire. And rather unusual driving methods. |

That's just freaking STUPID, I'm just glad she didn't hurt you or anyone else. I have NO sympathy for idiots that drive drunk, there is absolutely NO valid excuse that anyone could come up with to justify it.

*sorry for the rant ;)
