I figured that most people have cellphones so I came for some advice.

My two year contract is up soon with Verizon, and I am eligible for the "New Every Two" discount. It basically gives me $100 discount on a phone.

I have an LG that has been a great phone, despite all the abuse I have put it through. I found a phone that I like, the LG enV. I am only doing internet research right now, so I haven't done any "field testing" yet.

I found this review: //www.phonearena.com/htmls/LG-enV-Review-review-r_1720-p_1.html and so far I like what I see. The only downfall, I think, may be the "tall" size. I was thinking about going to a Treo or Blackberry, but I think that I want it just because it's a nifty gadget.

What I'm looking for:
Flip Phone
expandable memory (really only usefull if the phone is an mp3 player)
mp3 player doesn't hurt, but not required.
I text a lot, so QWERTY keypad is good, but not required.
video messaging.

So, does anyone have any experience with this particular phone (env) or could recommend something to look into? Oh, I'm a Verizon guy.

You havent given the Q any thought? Since im on verizon thats my choice. If i were on t-mobile id die to go back to the sidekick with the new version (3).

I thought about the Q, but it's really expensive. The enV I can get for $100. The Q would be at least twice that. Too many dollar bills.

Samsung has a new phone out... can't find a link. Verizon has it, it's got a 2 way flip, and qwerty keyboard. Check it out.

That was my initial interest, but after doing some research, I read a lot about the QWERTY keypad being awkward to use, so I ruled that one out. Shame, really, because it was pretty cool.

If you sign up with Sprint, the Q is $99. They were recently rated #1 in network reliability (unlike the commercials would have you believe), and have EVDO-revA coverage over a much wider area than Verizon, who is really behind the game on that. Also, Verizon an Cingular's data plans are capped at 6Gb/Month, even the "unlimited" ones, I think they removed the word unlimited from their literature recently actually. Sprint also changed their over-the-air downloads to 99 cents, also.

I don't know why I'm talking them up, the bastards just sold my division to another company >:[

I don't text...AT ALL!! but I did look at that one. Cool! I just did my new every 2 at the beginning of this month. I got the Moto SLVR L7 (candy bar phone). I like it so far, but as normal with Verizon they have crippled it!! I cannot have a expansion card in and run Bluetooth at the same time! Not that having the expansion card in matters anyway...no menu to get to it, totally unaccessible! I can transfer pics by bluetooth TO THE PHONE (and remove those), nothing else. All I wanted was a PHONE anyway, so much of this does not bother me. Although, I would like to be able to have access to the phones capabilities if I so choose and not have to pay 99cents and other charges to get music off of (BENDOVERIN) GETITNOW.
Even though bluetooth didn't work until I found stuff on the internet to set up my Mac to be able to use bluetooth and transferring cals and numbers.
I am writing emails to complain to Verizon about not being able to use my phones features. Just make sure that you can use what you want on the phone. I would call them (2 years from now I will).

I have the "V" by LG. I think that is the one that was the origianl but now they have the enV. I LOVE IT. I will NEVER go back to a regualr phone. I like the qwerty key pad and I text/email ALL the time.

Just my 2 cents

Maryland has some of the best coverage in the US. Of course the east coast has much better coverage then the west coast due to population density and market.

When i moved to the eastern shore, T-mobile which i had never had a problem with in AA County, Sprint and Nextel, and Cingular all had 1 - 5 mile dead spots. Verizon never failed me out there, which is why i was forced to switch. It works fine here in baltimore now but people with sprint/nextel are always complaining on the western side of baltimore.

However a survey would turn up that most people in baltimore county have nextel's due to population popularity.... makes me sound racist. CIngular worked pretty well out this way too.

Depends on where you live but looking at coverage maps if you live in california Verizon is a best bet.

(Sprint versus Verizon in lower pensylvania id say Sprint. Then again they both have cdma so either on will work but your roaming.) I haver never roamed in the state of maryland since the advent of digital cell phones. Not sure but Im guessing its due to network deals sharing towers and what not.

Hehe, actually Nextel placed dead-last. Internal reports say that they are now at highest ever service levels and availability on Nextel's iDEN network now.

Sprint has roaming deals with most of the rural carriers, and even has data roaming with Alltell since they use CDMA and even have EVDO.0 in some markets.

Sprints customer service people are still mostly evil and stupid. The new VP of customer care hasn't had quite enough time to rout the huns that invaded and entrenched themselves over the last few years. If they finally fix that and stop screwing up peoples accounts, they might finally pull themselves out of the subscriber black hole.

Back when i was in high school it was 3 dollars to call sprint's customer service. I hope they changed that a bit. My boss also had alot of issues with sprints customer service... not that it was bad but the people were idiots.

Oh and for the record I havent had issue with the EVDO coverage, unfortunately as i said maryland has decent coverage over 95% of the state for most poviders t-mobile maybe a bit less. They didnt have EVDO when i first moved to the shore but 6 months later i had 4 bars in the trailor park down the street and 2 at my house which was as far from town as it gets.

Other states is probly where Sprints coverage becomes superior. In Maryland all the providers have enough coverage to compete. But looking at coverage maps i wouldnt want to move out of this state.

The Q is a dog....I have had mine for a year, and am constantly having to reboot it.......always seems to be freezing or locking up.

Had the TREo 650 before this, not a bad phone, the 700 is suppose to be fab

I just did my new every two with verizon, I got the chocolate in black. I wanted a large screen where I could put cool wallpapers and use as an mp3 player also. It looks like an ipod, same size, records/plays videos, holds micro-sd card, camera, etc.. I hook it up to BitPim and I can really use all the features through my PC. I love my Chocolate :) and I used phone arena to make a decision also.. so good luck! but this is not a phone for texting... I'd go with a blackberry type if I were you :)

Sadly the chocolate is currently the most returned phone for verizon. Im sure its a good phone but its not for everyone and i guess everyone wanted to try it lol.
