with all the expert editing challenges, i need to buy photoshop. only thing is, i don't know which one i should get! i wanted CS2, but i can't find that on the Adobe site anymore; they have CS3 now, and the price is a little steep for my budget. does anybody know if i can still buy CS2, and if not, then is Elements 5 anygood?

Elements would make an excellent stepping stone. It has much of the power of the full blown photoshop, but also kinds "wizard-like features" for hand holding you through some of the adjustments you can make to a photo. PhotoShop itself is daunting... you have to do everything by hand. So if this is your first real photo editor, Elements is probably a better choice anyway.

| You'll be able to find a copy of PS CS2 in a physical store for quite some time. Also many other online retailers still have copies available. If CS2 is the version you want, get it. |

As for "deals" ... please ........ ignore the "rip offs". If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You don't want people stealing your photos, don't go stealing photoshop just because its normal price is out of reach.

Most likely no. If he's 17 he's probably in high school which is not higher education and not eligible. If he graduated high school early and is in college then yes he could qualify for student licensing. |

| or you could always download GIMP for free or go for a free trial version of Paint Shop Pro XI. Both programs give you a lot of post-processing options just like CS2 |

Actually, you may be right... check out the discounts here, the eligibility info on the right suggests that he would be eligible K-12 or higher ed:

| So I noticed that Adobe doesn't offer Photoshop CS3 at a discounted rate for students. They do however offer Photoshop CS3 Extended. Is there any reason for not wanting the Extended version? |
