FWIW - I just went and removed the nude designation on my ape. Sorry, my bad! But, do you really want someone going through and policing the galleries and requesting that people remove their designations? |
:)
I don't have the answer to what makes a nude a nude. I think of trees in winter as "naked"; I can come up with many scenarios where I'd present them as naked. As for the galleries, the way I think about it though is, if I were to look for images of trees in winter, where would I go? Where would most people go? They would look in the "nature" gallery, not the "nudes" gallery.
I think it is a matter of what would most people classify it as.
As for wanting someone going through and policing the galleries, nothing is further away from what I want. I think there is way too much policing the way it is. I expect people to show common sense. |

Only if people persist in misapplying designations -- otherwise it won't be necessary. |

I'm guilty, I did it for fun. I have two naked frogs and a blue lizard in nudes. Slap me on the ass, for I have sinned.
Oh check out these posts: I am really affended they're in the "Snapshots" gallery, where most of my shots are. Now they should be spanked, for sure.

I appreciate the SC's desire to facilitate the self-pleasuring of Nude Gallery viewers, but is it really worth suspending people over?
Doesn't the SC have enough to do?
And even if it is of critical importance to have the right photos in the right galleries, isn't a warning good enough to take care of most cases? If someone is highly motivated to keep a photo in a gallery that you don't find appropriate, why not let him/her keep it there? This will be a very small number of cases, nothing that will seriously threaten the overall pigeonholing of art. Seems extreme to me.

it sounds extreme when you hear one side of the story, yes.
the fact of the matter is that we posted the policy for the nude gallery 7 months ago for very good reason. we have asked nicely (not "warned") that the non-nude photos we are aware of be removed from the gallery. repeatedly.
it is the failure to comply with our request that results in consequences, not the action itself. and it does not always result in suspension but the consequences are determined on a case-by-case basis.

OK there's obviously some story here that I am unaware of but this thread has had one good outcome. I never really looked at the galleries including the nude! Wow what a great resource going back to look at some of the different catergories :) |

I will also point out that suspensions for this "offense" are not for a set amount of time, but only until the photog moves them. Then, the suspension is lifted, immediately.
Most cases would look like this --
1. non-nude in nude gallery (and no, we are not going to patrol thousands of pictures daily to make sure the membership, most of which are mature, is doing what common sense dictates. if you see a picture that makes you think we are being arbitrary, send us a quick note and we'll review it)
2. SC asked that it be moved
3. picture not moved (despite obvious activity on site). At this point sometimes there is a note back to the SC or not (sometimes they are polite, sometimes they are not)
4. SC waits to give time for the photog to move the picture
5. SC asks again, reminding that failure to do so will result in loss of site privileges.
6. Photog acts, or they don't, their choice.
7. Photog is suspended from forum posting, submitting, and voting. They can still access the site. They can still "work" in their galleries.
8. When photog moves said picture, all suspension is lifted immediately and the fun can continue.
All that said, if a picture is "mature in nature" it may be in the nude gallery, and we not move it, even if there is no "skin" showing. yes, it is subjective. |

Perhaps it needs to be retitled:

Thanks again to the various SC members who have posted in this thread.

I removed my one and only nude from the site completely. I'd long ago removed it from the "nude" gallery because of the number of hits it got there. I did, however, "hide" it in my portfolio. But now it's completely gone. (Sorry about that, Jeff - I think you had it as a fav.) |

Okay guys, if there's one thing I can't stand its being made to look like the bad guy by one person who pretends to be the victim and doesn't tell the whole story (mostly in an off-site forum). I might be breaking etiquette here but I don't really care, I'm fed up of people trying to make us seem evil. We're not just robots (SC this, SC that, SC are a bunch of XxXx's), we're real people who put in a lot of time to make sure everything runs smoothly and fairly, and it seems to me that some people just don't appreciate that.
So, here's the whole story!
We have had a problem in the past with people posting photos in the nude gallery to get more hits, as everyone knows those photos get more views. For this (and other) reasons, when we see a photo in there that doesn't belong, we send out a standard response asking for it to be moved.
Originally posted by SC: We've removed the flag for nudity your image "x x x" as the image does not actually contain any nudity.
Also, per our Administrative Announcment regarding Adult Content (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=471692) would you please remove this image from the Nude Gallery and choose a more appropriate one?
Thanks,
DPC Site Council |
The member in question's response was
Originally posted by member: Nudity - a naked part; anything uncovered. This photo fits the definition.
No, I won't change anything. So ban me. |
They never told us they just wanted it hidden for personal reasons (they don't want to look at it). We have worked with people in that situation before with no problems and would have been happy to do the same here.
Instead we just got the incredibly rude (in my opinion) reply. Still, we discussed the response, and spent time sending another kindly worded reply with more of a reason why we ask people to move them. We then waited a couple of days... no response. So we did what we've done in past situations where we've felt it appropriate.
We can't spend our time looking at all the photos in all the galleries, we have more productive things to do (new WPL, validating originals, etc). And now we have to spend our time defending ourselves in situations where other users have been manipulated into hating us. I don't help DPC to be hated. More and more lately I've wished I wasn't even on SC.

You're not alone in that feeling, Ben. There are many of us who have fallen silent in the face of SC-bashing. So I just want to chime in and say how much I appreciate all the volunteers at DPC do!
(...and if anyone reading this thinks that they're not volunteers, they need to take a step back and consider what $25 of their own time is worth and compare that with the days and weeks of time spent by SC members cleaning up little messses.) |

I have moved my offensive image from the Nude section! Should have been in Nature from the start. Strikes me that some might put images in the Nude gallery as there seem to be a lot of hits there!!!!
- in my defence, it is a chick that's not wearing a stitch.

Ugh. Here's my two cents: I am dismayed at people who give the SC crap for doing their job the best they can. I am dismayed at people trivializing what may not be important to them (i.e. pic in the wrong galleries), but is important to the integrity and reliability of the site. I am dismayed at said people being applauded or recognized for speaking out about how they don't care about photos being intentionally misclassified. If you don't care, stay out of the discussion. And I think it is up to the SC and admins to decide if the SC "have more important things to do".
Lastly, I'll chime in with my appreciation for what the babysitters SC do and for all the ridiculous crap they put up with. I don't always agree with all of you, but I have great respect and appreciation for what you do.
And one final "ugh". |
