I recently went to Belize with some other dental students over our spring break to offer free dental care to the people of Red Bank Village in Belize. We spent four days drilling, filling, and extracting teeth, and making partial dentures. The 11 of us saw over 100 patients in that time.
The people of the village were very kind and appreciative and unfortunately poor. Most of the children had no shoes and they lived in palm leaf huts with dirt floors. They were very happy though, with what they had.
The experience was nothing short of amazing and I took over 1200 photographs to document it all. I wanted to share with you all some of the photographs from the trip.

The children were great. They were so carefree and they got the biggest kick out of having their picture taken. Then when they found out they could see the picture on the back of the camera they went crazy!

Jeffrey that must have been some experience! Thanks for sharing with us. Interesting that you say the children where happy as I found the same in India - poor with little in home comforts but they were happy. I found myself looking at what I had, what they had and how they were content with their lot. Thanks again for the great photos!

Yeah, it really makes you wonder how we can have so much and not be as happy.
On the flipside, some of the kids were so smart and outgoing that it almost breaks your heart knowing they'll probably be stuck in this village their entire lives when they could accomplish so much with more opportunities.

What a wonderful, selfless way to spend your Spring Break! You came back with great memories and beautiful photos. Most students won't even remember what they did on Spring Break without reading the Police report. :/
I left you some comments and smiles on a few. I really enjoyed looking through them. |

Thanks! Pulling teeth is a great stress reliever also, which is what I really needed. I would certainly recommend it to anyone over yoga or other such nonsense. ;-)
