In case you haven't noticed, there is a "non-standard" DQ comment for disqualification for the following photo in the Spinning challenge.

What gives? What is a self-DQ?

The submitter requested a self-DQ for whatever reason.

Edit: Apparently the reason was they fessed up to spot editing.

So, even if you self-DQ yourself, you still have to abide by the DQ suspension rules (if applicable), yes?

of course

I'm trying to find the info on self-dqs and failing.

I know that if you've violated some rule, you can't self-DQ. That's why the image in the first post got a normal DQ.

But if that's the case, then there must be some distinction in how they treat self-DQs vs. normal DQs.

Any SC around?

Edited to make it say "... you can't self-DQ." Oops.

The main difference is that a self-DQ'd image is not displayed at the end of the challenge results for viewing and discussion; as far as the membership goes it disappears from the site.

There's no real difference in penalties or how the DQ's count towards them.

That's correct. If he had a second DQ within 25 entries, his challenge submission privileges most likely would have been suspended for a week, just like anyone else.

Ah, I see. So, the image at the beginning of this thread was NOT self-DQ'ed, then. Otherwise, it wouldn't show up on the list of DQ'ed entries. Which leads me back to my original observation--why the official "unprofessional" comment on why it was DQ'ed.

I think because it was taken by a SC member and the other members of the SC were just having a bit of fun.
