Hi All,

After some really crappy results in the last few challenges I have decided to give the current ones a miss.... so I have added some new pics to my portfolio instead.... anyone who would like to check them out or comment please feel welcome, I would appreciate any feedback.

Arches
Eternal
Storm
Looking Up

Hopefully the links work correctly.....

Cheers,

Todd.

I really like the Arches shot, as well as the Storm one. I think "Eternal" is weird - I don't like the person in the background. The jury is still out on Looking Up...

Thanks Steve, funnily enough, the guy in the background was the reason I took the shot like that..... to show the effect of the heat off the flames.... so there you go, the reason I took it is the reason you don't like it.... everyone's taste is different ;). I appreciate the feedback though.

Cheers,

Todd.

I like the colors in the looking up shot. The blue with the greys and tans of the turret work for me. Arches is a bit too contrasty for my taste. Eternal would have worked better I think without the guy in the background, then the flame would have been the central focus of the shot. I like the sillouette effect in storm and the clouds certainly give the impression of an impending storm. Good work.

I think Eternal is really nice. Great focus on the flame and I like the contrast of that with the playing liquid.

One improvement could be the background. Perhaps a number of people walking across the grass toward the flame at varying distances would add depth and give extra emphasis to the rippling heat.

I just like it anyway.

YAH! Eternal is awesome. I love the way the heat from the flames distorts the out of focus background. This woulda done great in the temperature challenge, IMO.

good Job! eternal is super! you should put it in temp challenge...I would vote it high myself...there is no accounting for what works well for some and not at all for others. I have seen 1's on images that were ribbon winners. We all face the same truths when it comes to likes and dis-likes

Thanks to all for the feedback and comments on my pics.
They were all actually taken about a month ago on a trip to Ottawa, so no chance of using Eternal for the temperature challege :(

And thanks to those who even though enough of some of them to add to you favorites..... very, very flattering indeed! Thanks!

Todd: I like Storm and Looking Up. Very nice! Good for you for exploring photography outside of DPC! I get so caught up in the challenges, sometimes I forget to do this.
It would be a great addition to add a little something to the "details" box... what the place is... why it inspired you .... any pertinent technical info.
I always enjoy reading those.

Todd,

The best shot for me there is looking up! I like arches too, would like to see it larger or on print, perhaps slightly too contrasty! I don't like Eternal it's just doesn't appeal. Storm is ok, although a storm scene should be in colour unless there is some lightning or wind blowing, you know some action

good point Karen, I should do that.

As for challenges, I am definately going 'off' them. I may or may not submit to challenges for a while..... and doubt I will bother going in open challenges at all.
