I just finished taking some self portraits for fun and this photo came out looking completely crazy. It was the only that did it and I've never seen it happen before in the nearly two years i've had the camera. I was using an sb800 flash in ttl mode if that helps. Any thoughts as to what happened.

Your camera decided to get creative. It happens. Take its battery out and wag your finger at the lens, that should fix it.
j/k - this actually happened to me once also and I just assumed it was just "one of those things". :) |

| Too bad it wasn't an insect shot or you could have seen how well it did in a 'minimal editing' challenge ;) |

i just pray it dosen't become a regular occurence, a new camera is not in my budget anytime soon.

Then just quit.
Pick up a pencil and start your 'drawing' career. I think a #2 pencil is about $.50.
Or...
Deal with the problem, get it in gear, and keep going.

best guess / itwas shot jpg + bad transfer to the card in the color LUT
(look up table).. bits got wanked ..
if you were shootng raw i've got no idea !!
