Hey David,
My brother sent me this link the other day...its about resolution. I haven't had time to read. I hope its not boring or anything.

you do not fix it because you don't have to. That information is a tag in your image telling how big your image would print by dividing the pixels value by the resolution value. I.E. Rebel XT 3456x2304
3456 @ 72ppi = 48 inches @ 300ppi = 11.5 inches
2304 @ 72ppi = 32 inches @ 300ppi - 7.7 inches
If you have your photo printed in a lab, you just tell them how big you want it and they'll do it no matter the resolution tag. If you don't print, then you don't care. If you print at home on an inkjet printer, you set the resolution to 360ppi for an epson printer and 300ppi for every others (canon, hp, etc.) you do this in photoshop and then you adjust the size of your print all using the image size tool.
this, this, and this should be of some help.

72 Pixels per inch is the typical display resolution for PC. I believe its 96 for Mac.
It doesnt matter it could say 1 ppi or a million. It wont have an effect on the way its displayed when your editing.
The Pixels per in resolution of the file or the display does not directly affect the print. However changing the pixels per inch actually printed will.
Cant explain it much better but the resolution you set in your camera has todo with the height and width "3456x2304" most cameras u can set a lower unti such as 2560x1920 for 5 megapixel or 1600x1200 for 2. |
