I just spent an absolute fortune today. I mean a seriously obscene amount of money. I bought a nice new 20" iMac with 250 gb hard drive, 2 gb RAM and an external hard drive (250 gb). Oh boy, is this an upgrade from my little old iBook with the 800 mhz processor. It's flying! AND I can actually see what I'm doing for a change. Added Aperture into the mix too. So far I'm liking it.
ALSO I can use it when I return to Europe next week. Yippee! (The same machine would have cost considerably more over there).
ETA: This is going to increase the likelihood of me voting on ALL the challenges. It's totally flying (first time I've seen the benefit of the cable modem).

Congratulations!! I did the same thing few months ago, except that I went for a PC instead of Mac, I built it exactly to my specifications, including top of the line video card (7900GTX) and RAID-5 drives. Didn't mean to get into a PC vs. Mac discussion, so enjoy your new computer.

congrats!!! the intel macs are great! and now that adobe cs3 is out, the only remaining software of widespread use that isn't a universal binary is micro$uck office (which isn't a huge issue to me since 95% of the time i just use neooffice instead). |

not quite. What you actually get it the vulnerability of a PC rather than the security of a mac.

While you're booted in Windows, you have the vulnerabilities of Windows. When you're booted as a Mac you (so far) have the security of a Mac.
The old argument used to be that Windows was better because you had more programs ... well now a Mac box can run more programs than any WinTel machine. |
