how much do you need to run photoshop, bridge, websites, and aim at the same time...and still be proficient?
also....how can you find out how much RAM you currently have?

well im getting a macbook pro...but im going to run windows on it through parralell

paralell allows you to switch back and fourth between windows and OSX

wow no wonder this HP is so slow it was a gift it was my sisters old one that she never used and its better than my windows 98 crap and this at least runs stuff decent...but im excited to get my macbook

A good place to start...and usually finish dealing with getting new RAM is at Crucial. I recommend them. Their web-based utility will tell you how much and of what speed your current RAM is as well as how many empty spots are available and what max type of RAM you can use.

You can never have enough ram. My main desktop that i use for photo editing uses a now-average (but fast) 1Gb, that seems to cope most of the time, but now and again i find myself wishing for another gig - just never get round to actually buying it though. However, the laptop i'm typing this out on is a pitiful 400Mhz Pentium II with an embarassing 128Mb, and that is still perfectly usable for editing even massive images (as long as i'm patient with the disk swapping).

I recently happened upon an HP machine sitting in walmart on clearance for $500, containing an Athlon X2 (dual core) 4200, 2gb RAM, 250Gb SATA 300 HD, and a DVD burner. I bought that, and I can now run Photoshop, RSE, IM clients, Firefox with a bazillion tabs, and Rhapsody (music) with barely a hiccup.

My old AthlonXP and 512mb RAM just didn't cut it. I'd only be able to run one or two apps at a time, and Firefox usage would make Rhapsody skip.

yes....im quite excited about this whole windows and OS on the same system thing...cause ive seen videos of it and its super speedy and you can be doning one thin somewhere and another thing somewhere else and not affect each other....fo instance run aim photoshop and fire fox on Windows then on mac run like itunes and word
its so convienent...what i really wish they did would be to have a panning screen so if you rin out of room just hit like ctrl+f(insert #here) and it turns tho a blank screen but still the same desktop and just hit the same button to go back....also does anyone on here know how to like transfer a harddrive to another one like put all the stuff on my pc like windows,powerpoint,etc onto the mac w/ windows?

I run Vista on both my home and work machines and both have 1GB of DDR. That seems to be about right for everything I do, which includes Firefox, Thunderbird, PSE5, PhotomatixPro and all my entertainment apps.

dealram has a great list of ram prices from various suppliers.

especially if you are going to be running photoshop within parallels, maxing out on ram will be a good investment. i've got 2gb in my core duo macbook (which unlike your macbook pro doesn't have dedicated ram for the video card) and am happy with the performance. it should fly on a core 2 duo macbook pro with 2gb.

Uh, yeah, you don't. You re-install all the software on the separate partition that will be necessary to run Windows and OSX on the same PC. Simply copying the software from the old directories won't work because registry entries and windows system files need to be installed to the OS.

haha i have a friend who swears up and down by windows 95...thats ALL he uses i dont know why...hes a programmer maybe thats easier
