I'd like to get the community opinion on the phenomenon on occurring in the Free Study and Contre-Jour threads, the running snapshot of voting results
7.0 + ---------- 0
6.5-7.0 -------- 3
6.0-6.49 ------- 4
5.5-5.99 ------- 1
5.0-5.49 ------- 3
4.5-4.99 ------- 0
4.0-4.49 ------- 0
4.0 (-)--------- 0
Someone raised the point that its not an accurate picture ,but only reflects the reporting precincts, which is true. However, I'd like to believe that the mumbo-jumbo programing behind an actual snapshot synopsis wouldn't be that difficult.
The question to debate is whether a voting summary would be good for the site.

No. As it is we have our fun and we know it's only a snapshot of entrants. If we had the stats for whole field then some photogs may see they are close to the top and start voting in such a manner as to try to enhance their position.
I like the delusional feel that I might be in the running for a ribbon or top 10 based on a small, unreflective sample of entrants. We all know those with dancing banana scores often don't post for fear of jinxing their entry. |

It is a fun idea, but I never thought about the fact that person could vote and influence scores because they have a good idea where people in general sit. Could one person though influence the scores enough to make a difference. |

While it's possible, one vote as you well know changes the overall score very little. |

Not enough to make a difference but that wouldn't stop some people from trying. It's a slippery slope to embark on. If you have an hour or two to spare then this thread may give some background as to why DPCers are a little jumpy when it comes to dodgy voting.
I like the scores threads as they are as they have that mystery about them of not knowing who isn't posting what :)
EDIT: typo

Depends on the numbers. For example in the Color Portrait II challenge dropping one 10 vote to a 5 would be enough to push a 2nd place image into third place. |
