It seems I am having trouble with skin tones shooting with my D80. I use 2 studio flash, and use a meter. But it seems the skin tones turn out too light. I would rather have skin tones that have more pigment and perhaps "softer" for portraits. One person told me to start shooting RAW. First, will that take care of my skin tone problem? I have been a bit intimidated about shooting RAW, as I am not too sure how the editing or converting works. I currently use Elements 4, and am looking on getting Adobe Lightroom if I go to RAW, as I know it has a converter. I know, so many questions........Thanks all!

first off shooting RAW will help you get the correct skin tones, but its still good to try and get that kind of thing right out of the camera. Lightroom will is defenitely the program to get except it supposed to be really tough on computers so if you get be prepared for that. There should also be a program that came with your camera that does RAW processing and conversion...

Well if you are overexposing the skin try using a smaller aperture. Experiment with your exposure. As far as a raw converter for NEF files nothing is better IMHO than Nikon's own CaptureNX.
