sounds alot like the "I need your services at my son's wedding" scam.
If it is a scam they will send you a cashier's check for considerably more the amount agreed on. Then they will say there was a clerical error and they sent your money and someone elses to you. They will then ask you to deposit the chack and send the difference to other party.
If you do this, about a week later the original cashier's check will be returned as a fake and the funds taken away from your account.
Procede with all due caution.
BTW - The tip off is the bad English writing.

pls
Stands out like a sore thumb. If a company is on the up and up, there is no way they would write pls, enstead of Please.
Also, If you have to ask... it most likely is a scam.

Has scam written all over it.
Some clues -
Impersonal - if the person had really found your work that impressive, they could at least use your name.
Dodgy channels - Cashiers cheque and personal shipping company? And even if so, why the need to mention them right now?
Unfinished business - the hotel doesn't exist yet, I wonder where he would expect you to send any communications, some untraceable address no doubt.
Non-specific - "some of your art works". He's that impressed, but can't even take the time to point out a particular title.
No history - Rigins hotels ? So there's more than one of them. Well, I just typed it into google and it came up with squat.
The scam would be that the cheque would be sent and be over the amount, and they would request you to pay some back, at which point their cheque would bounce. Probably if not they would request your banking details or some other trickery.
Just delete it. |

Plus, you'd think he could address you by name instead of "Artist." Not to say you're not an artist, just that for a purchase request, he'd know your name from seeing your stuff.
Edit...too slow.

If you search for the phrase "is this a scam," you'll likely find the same wording for numerous instances of the same scam that has been going on for some time. |

I also got an email from Wendell Rigins....
We artists are always hoping someone wants to buy some art from us, but there are some real scams going on...a fellow artist got scammed out of quite a lot regards shipping art overseas. Fortunately he only lost money, not his art as he discovered the scam before the art was actually shipped out. He sent money for some shipping fees. I recently received this email from a Wendell Rigins. I did an internet search on his name and found this forum, so I registered with DP so I could post a comment. Anyone want to respond to me personally in an email, just email me at greenwoodsart@msn.com or via my website, www.kathrynbarnes.com. I have 2 photos on the site...it is primarily for my fine arts endeavors, but I do fine art photography also, or attempt to, so I may be posting in the future here. I think the photos I have seen are beautiful....anyway, here is the email...

I responded to ask which art he was interested in. I thought it strange he had this email address as it is not the one associated with my website.
Then I got this reply from him, which also seems strange because he is asking me for personal information, i.e. an address that he should not need, as a po box is sufficient to send a check to....
