I am going to Dublin Ireland on April 20 for work. I am planning on taking a few days vacation afterwards.

Any DPCers in the area for a GTG? I could use some ideas for a road trip to the West coast.

Thanks in advance!

Never been there but have relatives that spent about 4 months waundering around Europe from the USA for a honeymoon that said Ireland was the most beautiful place they EVER visited. I envy your photographic opportunities.

Galway City Center - Eyre Square, Pedestrianized district, open market on Saturday mornings; Cliffs of Mohar; Salt Beach; Connemara; The Burren; Athenry (castle in town and ruins all over surrounding country side.) Any of the Aran Islands. Any drive through the country is absolutely gorgeous.

I will look at my stuff when I get home. If you want specific places for stuff anywhere within 50 km of Galway, I may have a place. If you go past the Galway Airport, you will go right past my house (across from the store, next to the gate.)

Have a great trip!

Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula are other good photograpy places. Also, Sligo.

If you are going to Galway, are you into the pubs for night stuff? If so, Quay's (pronounced keys), Lisheen, King's Court...I will post some pics tonight/tomorrow and leave a link to the portfolio.

Oh, also, Galway has a great little port/dock area a block off city center (a few hundred yard walk from the pedestrianized area) which frequently has Dutch sailing ships (three masted types) you can board and shoot. Also a good selection of cargo, Navy, various buoy ships as well as small craft.

And if you can, definitely go to a Hurling match. Local fields all over the place. great photo ops and a lot of fun to watch. Careful though - locals are VERY passionate about their teams.

The Guinness is the best you have ever tasted. Trinity College in Dublin is worth the visit if you enjoy museum type events. The Book of Kells and the Great Library are truly inspirational. Of course, Guinness is brewed in Dublin, so a tour of the brewery is a possibility. Dublin's downtown park should be blooming in April.

Galway is like most larger cities. If you stayed just outside of Galway on the coast, you could do a couple of day trips - one to the Connemara Coast/Kylemore Abbey and the other to the Cliff of Moer.

The Dingle Peninusla is marvelous - however you likely won't have time for it if you are only taking a few days. One day would be just to drive around the Peninsula. If you do make it to Dingle, then Connor's Pass is a must drive. Hold on to your shorts though.

In either Cahir or Cashel (I don't rember) is a true Norman Castle that is just captivating. For a small fee, one can wander about all the grounds.

In 2003 I shot nearly 600 frames in 12 days (Galway, Belfast, Dublin, Mallow - with day trips at each location). Truly an lifetime trip.

Ohhh...bummer! I found all the CD's with my Ireland pics on them. However, 10 of them are mini CD's and this unit won't read them. The processed pics are on those. So...I definitely will post some images, but may take a day or so due to processing. They are not the best quality to begin with. Taken with a SONY CD Mavica 5mp cam. But still some good shots in and around Galway, Limmerick, Salt Beach, The Burren and especially the lower pedestrian area. Since these were taken the district on the other side of Eyre Square has also been made pedestrian only as well as Eyre Square Park itself (Kennedy Park commonly called since that is where JFK gave his speech) has been completely rebuilt/lanscaped/modeled - whatever it is you do to parks.

I also have a bunch of good links for the area, will dig them out and post or send in PM/email.
