I am having problems :(

My audio driver is constantly getting messed up (so the computer doesn't play any, or almost no sound) and for a split second i see the taskbar jump back to windows 98 view, then goes back to the windows xp graphic - but changes to one line instead of the two lines I usually have it at.

Can anyone explain that?? If i change the taskbar back to two lines it stays there until i shut off the compuer. Next time i turn it on - after about 15 minutes it does the funk - and gets screwed up.

When i reinstall the audio driver everything works fine, until the funk comes and the audio stops (and the taskbar changes)

I have tried searching on google for a solution but can't seem to find anyone else with this problem.

Any sudjestion??? :(

Aside from the things you have likely already done (virus and adware scans), after installing the drivers restart windows. I know it likely restarts it after the drivers are installed, but restarting it again will test the funk and if de-funked it will set the last known good startup for windows to current de-funked state.

If you suspect a virus, you can use Trend Micro Housecall, a free online virus checker, to check for and remove viruses.

Have you tried uninstalling the recent KB925902 patch?

I had a similar problem, but my Realtek audio helper was somehow not playing happy with user32.dll and hhctrl.ocx... ??

Anyways, I found a hotfix from Microsoft, if you have a Realtek on-board audio, that might correct the problem for you also.

edit- yes, it happened after the offending windows update :|
