Day 4 Dr. Grissom
I finally got my wife to pose for me. I am one of the few males at work and I am having a hard time getting anyone to pose (hence the animal pictures). I followed some of Brad's tutorial and I like the results for the most part. I am not sure about the eyes. Maybe a little overdone?

Thanks Laurie (L2) I agree he has a great face. I am going to try to soften him up so I can try again but that might take a while LOL. I took your b&w idea and did the best I could with the shot.

Day 4 : 'another puff'
Starry calls himself my father, we work at the same place. Besides being a caring father, we both share the same birthdate. I always joke around with him that I am 27 and you are 72, he is really only 62 :)
He has been my favorite model; camera loves him, he loves the camera! I asked him today if he would mind, and he grabbed his cowboy hat and was ready to strike a pose. You can find out more about him in my earlier posts here and here.

Originally posted by SandyP: Vikas, this is nice. I like portraits done in a little darker light. It adds a little intensity and character. And the sepia tones on this one give it an old-timey look, which I always love.
Who is she? She looks like someone that would be really nice to know :) |
Thanks for asking about her Sandy, made me realize I was missing out on sharing the stories of these wonderful friends! And you are right, she is indeed really nice to know :)
Getting back to Day3:
Louise is a fitness instructor and gardener by profession (her website). I met her through craigslist last weekend to shoot for her fitness webpage. She has been teaching Nordic skiing from over 30 years and now she is getting into nordic walking and outdoor fitness instructions.
A bundle of energy, a beautiful person at heart! She is the first person I actually know who has been on an expedition to Antarctica - while we met briefly she shared some stories about her trip. I look forward to seeing her again and hear all about her wonderful trips!
I had to give her the photos on CD and met her yesterday - perfect timing for day 3 :)

Day 5 (a little early)
Thanks to xianart and TCGuru for various new to me editing techniques. xianart introduced me to the use of radial gradient and TCGuru introduced me to using a white layer with soft light blending mode. Both are used on this image of Dave - another stay at home dad and hoepfully our future church plant worship leader. He is also Jakes dad. |

I am posting among so many talented people, but sadly, I am struggling with a new camera - having major focus issues. I don't remember being so disappointed when using the Sony F828. I am not used to looking through the view finder and the Sony had a rotating lense body that I could utilize by hooking my view from the hip or mid body for stabilization. Now it seems I have to "unlearn" bad habits. It's been a very frustrating 5 days for me.
Here's the best of the worst:
Sam, the hardware store owner.
Kenny, the nicest kid at the gas station.
Both submitted to not fall too far behind.
