Yep, moving right along with a sub-5 score again. When I get into one of these streaks, I can really string 'em up! :-)

Just now I have 3 pictures in voting stage - a 4 and something, a 5 and a 6
The contre-jour is the 4 :-(
04/04/2007 04:27:00 AM · #31
Started at 4 this morning, thankfully climbed a little bit now.

I estimated a 6, so as long as I crawl up 0.1 over the next 6 days I will be content.. My freestudy is doing MUCH better.

this bites, I thought I still had a day to enter...I was just processing an image I took. :( This time difference thing kills me every time. Guess it's time to find a bike or chain.

I go more gut and heart than technical merit.
My list is
1st If it jumps out and is a "wow" 8-10
2nd Meets the challenge but does not jump 6-8
3rd Questionable if it meets challenge 4-5
4th Does not meet challenge or is just a dud 1-3
5th No vote if it is obvious broken editing rules.
Of which I̢۪ve seen four that slipped by.

I vote the same way. I think some people are forgetting this is a "Contre-jour" challenge. Your image is SUPPOSED to be into the light and alot of times should have lens flare.

that's not true at all. . .contre-jour isn't all about lens flare. but i would agree that i've seen a few that clearly aren't shot into main source of light.

that said, i followed the rules and am still receiving a sub-5 score.

ah well!

:o)

Oh I'm not saying it should always have lens flare, but it is definitely an effect often used in contre-jour. Also another misconception I've seen as from a comment I recieved is that some people think fill light can't be used while it indeed can be used. You don't have to point the camera toward the only light source used.

Second entry after a weak submission on my first challenge. Really hoping to get above a 6 with this one or some more comments on why it's low.
04/04/2007 12:49:23 PM · #46
Why are people upset about getting low scores when there voting average is giving people 4.1 to 4.9 when they give out votes??
04/04/2007 12:49:46 PM · #47
So many sunset pics... Is that really contre-jour? I would say no if there isn't any other subject in teh photo other than a the sunset.

Stuck at a gig all by myself and lying on the desk were my customer's 1DMark IIs, 16-35 and a 5D with 24-70 2.8L mounted. CF cards scattered about. I was waiting for the OS to reinstall, only a couple of hours till rollover and my eh-prepared/mediocre entry is back at the crib, the sun is going down outside--what would YOU do?

I used his 5D and edited on my not so calibrated laptop. :-) And the score seems to be ok for a shoehorn job.

Yeah, I know there's another thread on the definitions of Contre-jour. My photo isn't doing good at all, one of my worst entries ever. Which sux because I don't think it's even close to my worst entry. I'm thinking of DQ'ing myself.
