Remember the thread the other week looking for improvement suggestions? The changes that are being put in place right now are the direct result of those suggestions.

It seems though that some of the scripts are trying to include code from the test server, which has been moved over. That's getting worked out now.

The end result (we hope) will be a web site that is more attractive and friendly to buyers.

It looks like everything should be stabilized now. If you notice anything broken please post here.

I really like the "you may also like..." section. Just curious, is this done automatically using keywords? And do the same ones show up each time?

This is done by cross-referencing the keywords and if necessary title and description to come up with a best match. If you have not already done so, be sure to fill out your keywords to get the best chance of bvuyers finding your photographs on searches!

I love the names the way they are now =o) The site looks pretty good one tiny tiny complaint the toolbar at the top doesn't have DPChallenge like before...lol but I found a link back to here at the bottom of the page.

I like the fact that DPC Prints is separating itself from dpchallenge somewhat. Makes it more professional.

this isn't about broken links but i've seen some of the link buttons being used with the old dpcprints background color scheme present instead of the white on the new site

I think the site looks great! I like the fact that its a bit more separated from DPC too. Makes it seem more professional and we might all be taken more seriously as photograph sellers. :)

Can you post the URL of pages where you are seeing this?

I think it looks much better than before. I don't want to critique too much since they haven't even officially notified but there doesn't seem to be a way for sellers to get to their store from the front page. Maybe that isn't important.

One thing that I meant to bring up before but didn't is that I wish there was a place for a small photographer bio, similiar to what we have here...location, maybe photo background, link to another site, etc.

Ooh and there's referral stats too! Lovely.

The other comments hit this on the head. A conscious decision was made to make DPChallenge less visisble on DPC prints. The change manifests itself in numerous ways (renaming from DPChallenge Prints to dpcPrints, removal of the DPChallenge link from the toolbar, removal of link to portfolio comments on DPC, etc). The idea is to present ourselves as artists selling our work rather than amateur hobbyists hoping to make an extra buck or two on the side.

Links to DPC are still present, (for example the browse by challenge option and the challenge winners' gallery, and in the FAQs), but are less prominent.

It's already been done, but not immediately evident. Go to your preferences page here on DPChallenge and you will see a new option to create a photographer bio. The bio will parse forum code (bold/italic, URL's, etc), and will appear in the box with your name in your print store.

woudln't it seem unnecessary to have a winners gallery at this point of the site then? maybe it could be called best of the best gallery

Why would a buyer have to read and agree to the DPChallenge user agreement? I would not feel comfortable as a user to agree to this only to buy a couple of prints ... or am I being paranoid (entirely possible :)

I have to agree to that comment. Why do they have to do the user agreement?
07/09/2003 06:40:06 PM · #23
One thing we might want them to agree to is an explicit acknowledgement that they are purchasing single pieces of art for their own private use and not for reproduction; that copyright remains with the artist.

I think requiring them to check a box for that before their order is finalized might be reasonable.

It is also possible that visitors/shoppers might leave "rude comments" if they are not bound by the TOS with no penalty, but it seems unlikely. Maybe we can remove comments from non-DPC members if we want ....
07/09/2003 06:40:10 PM · #24
I have another small request ... would it be possible to add a PM link (or optionally even display the user's email address if they display it over here on DPChallenge) to the artist's page on DPCPrints? That way, buyers could contact the artist, for example to request a different crop of a print.

Bug report:

(to make things easier, I will explain exactly how to reproduce this)

Go to John Setzler's prints
Click the Black and White category
(there is more than one page)
Click 'next' to go to the next page
BUG: doing this leads to page 2 of the entire collection, when it should lead to page 2 of Black and White.

These buttons simply need their links changed.
