The following message has suddenly started popping up:
'! Windows - System Error
There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.'
This started as sooas I logged on this morning; the server (Virgin Media, formerly NTL for those in the UK) went down before I went to bed last night. What does it mean? Should I be worried? What should I do to rectify the problem? HELPPPP!!!.... |

If you have a seperate cable modem / box, turn it off and on again, then restart your computer. Or, more accurately, just turn the box off and on again, and "repair" the network connection by right-clicking. |

David - thanks for the advice. All is ok now - elder daughter is home from uni and I think her laptop was the culprit. Pheww - I had images of losing all my photographs; time to invest in an external harddrive for back up purposes, I think.... |

Backing up can be important but an IP address conflict will not harm any of your data saved on your computer. Most likely more than one computer on your network was trying to use the same IP address causing a temporary confusion. Following David's suggestions should help. Also, it is good to check for a conflicting static IP address setting. |
