I got this from national Geographic. Does it work?
you guys go try it out!

Yes it works but usually you buy a 'reversinig ring' that allows you to attach your lens to the body (a SLR) by the other end. Some reverse ring have a cable and some sort of cap that would transmit part of the information.
I do not have it and I never tried without the reverse ring. But in theory it works. Although I would be scare to drop the lens, scratch the inner lens, dust in the cam .....
