Hi all. Gigi's a friend. I was really shocked to see her beautiful contributions zapped from the arhives, and I didn't even know that the reason stemmed from comments on her voting pattern. People, please understand that internet connections in the Philippines (outside Manila and Cebu) are not as consistent as connections made from where most of us are (I'm currently in HK). And if one is merely connecting by dial-up, the chance of disconnection is pretty high at certain times of the day. In any case, I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt that that is partially the reason why she has contributed a mere 50+ votes in all her time here as a member. It's really a shame that she has to go, she is actually the reason why I even tried getting in here. |

As far as I understand it, that's not why she is gone.

She emailed me and she's feeling fine now after those hurting emails. OneSweetSin and Autool it's not your email that hurts her. She forwarded some emails to me and I'm hurt too. She read the forum and its ok with her nothing much to say about. But to close this topic in good terms she decided to quit.
Please for those who emailed her rudely, examine your ownself first before saying such things to others.
I like her photos too. Poor soft hearted girl hope she can stand up again one day. |

LOL I never posted the persons name but I made it easy to figure out when I had an uncalled for comment on a challenge. |

Infact, that is probably a good idea. The people who make the DPChallenge community unbearable for other users are the ones who should be removed from the site.
Edit
If the e-mails were sent via PM, they should be controllable. Isn't it possible to check the e-mails sent to Gigi, and act against people who misused the PM function?
I'm not saying these people should be openly crucified in the forums, but a private warning from the admins might be in order.

Why was she required to produce the original? |

I too am interested in what the original question was about the image that caused the call for the original.
To me, we handle DQ way too quietly. I say this not to cause a problem for the photographers whose work is DQed, but rather, we can use these unfortunate incidents to reaffirm certain rules and regulations. More importantly, they can become a learning tool for newer members

One more request here for an explanations as to why she was required to produce the original. The picture looked legal to me.

It looked legal to me, too. In fact, I voted it a 10, because I loved it so much. Any insight, site council? |

I loved her shot. It was a refreshing take on the challenge, and it was fun to see *Country* from the Asian perspective, or from a world-wide perspective.
In my opinion, once the challenge ends, I feel that DQs should end for that challenge, too.

I wonder if some people request a DQ routinely just to see if they can catch cheaters? I promise it wasn't dsidwell (he stood to gain the most)! : ) |

I think the request for the original was made due to an exposure date issue.

Copied from the "other thread" in this topic:
The DQ request may be received during the last few hours of voting--you have to allow some time for the artist to respond, and you can't hold up the challenge result for a pending DQ.
Sometimes the grounds for the DQ is revealed by the photographer's comments, which only become visible after the challenge (grrrr....).
Sometimes, once the photographer's identity becomes known, the image is then found posted elsewhere in such a way as to demonstrate it was taken outside the allowable dates or otherwise "illegal." |

That wouldn't work, because date issues usually only come up after the challenge ends. Sometimes new members have been DQ'd on these grounds because they didn't know the date requirements and it has been picked up because they gave the correct exposure date. |
