Some of the voting I have seen lately has been pretty strict in the sense of sticking completely to the challenge topic. After seeing a portrait challenge late last year I could have sworn that there was quite an opposition to animals being in the challenge and was surprised to see that the animals in the last portrait challenge did pretty good. I had thoughts about posting the image below in the challenge but decided not to and now possibly kicking myself for it. I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on how this one mite have done in the Color Portrait challenge? And yea I know the title prob wouldn't have worked ;)

Here's the pic:

Thanks in advance,

From Webster:

Portrait:
1 : PICTURE; especially : a pictorial representation of a person usually showing the face

It says "person"...

Anyway, the photo is beautiful and I'd have voted 7.

There's only one way to find out how a picture will do - enter it and see!

Never let fear of DNMC put you off entering something. Obviously it's a different matter if you already entered something else (but you didn't say that in your post).

Don't forget that voting is the aggregate result of ~200 people's individual opinions. Will some people vote down animal pics in portrait challenges? Almost certainly. Will you get an overall low score as a result? Less clear IMO and not something you can determine unless you try.

The worst that can happen is that your entry will bomb and you'll get a low score - but who cares? You have a top-notch excuse ready to go!

I like your shot and would have given it a good score, but I obviously can't speak for anyone else.

Sorry, I don't have anything really relevant to the thread to say. But, I gotta ask SC to fix the typo in the thread title please! It's gonna drive me crazy!

I would've voted it a 6. I wasn't particularly bothered by animal shots.

This is one of my favorite portraits on the site:

I think there's a fine and very fuzzy line here, though. Pets push the limits of voters' tolerance, but I think that wildlife is probably outside of that tolerance altogether.

Thanks for the comments, I think I learned my lesson and if I feel it's possibly relevant then I'll enter :) worst case scenario I learn from a mistake.

Thanks again,
