Hey everyone,
im lookin into buying a teleconverter for my nikon d50. i looked at the sigma 1.4x and the nikon 1.4x, the nikon is like $350 though and the sigma is only like $150. I wanted to know if the sigma would work with my: sigma 105mm ex macro and my nikon 300mm if ed? so if yall know if the nikon is worth $200 extra, and which one works with which lenses, i would appreciate the information, thx to all

It's probably best to get one of the same brand as whatever lens you're going to use it with. I have a Sigma 70-200, and I bought the Sigma TC to go along with it. I probably would have shelled out the extra to go with the Nikon one if my lens was a Nikon.

I don't have a whole lot of research to back up this opinion, but I would think that would be the best route.

Sigma's web site had information about what lenses theirs would work with... I remember looking at all of that when I was researching it.

I have the Canon version of this Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DG 1.4x for Nikon teleconverter.

I am told that it is the same Hoya Glass as the Pro line TCs by both Tamron and Sigma. I use it with my 70-200mm 4L and it is very sharp. Little to no loss at all.

When it comes to TCs remember the loss of f/stops. A 1.4x you will lose a stop on a 2x you lose 2 full stops and that is a lot on a slower (f/4 or greater) some of the budget/midrange lenses will hunt if they will focus lock at all in less than desireable light.

In the spirit of contradictory posts... I bought the Sigma 1.4x to use with my canon 70-200L and it works. Quality is fine. Look at it this way - how serious can you be about image quality when you are spending 150 bucks to get a zoom that would otherwise cost you a grand lol.
