Okay so I'm going the NJ Nets game tomorrow. And of course they say that Still cameras are allowed but not professional camers. I have a Canon Eos Rebel XT....not as interested in whether it's considered a professional camera...but whether or not anyone has entered the game with one or will it be perceived as a professional camera at the door???
I have GREAT seats...so I'd love to get good photos of the players and photos of Jay-z and Beyonce haha.

| Why don't you call the arena and ask? |

| At events like this they usually don't allow any camera with interchangeable lenses. That would include your Rebel XT. |

and at some events I've heard that it's cameras with lenses over a certain length. |

The last arena I want to had a limit of 4" on lens length (including zoom). I had a 6" lens and really had to fight for it. Would have sucked to be turned away at that point as I had paid a lot for the ticket & driven quite a way to the event. They said the rules often change depending on what event is going on at the arena. Best you call and make sure before you leave the house.

From what I've heard, if your camera is silver you must be an amateur,
The arena may have different guidelines though so better call them. |

I would make sure you have a safe place to take your camera just incase you get turned away, Even if you call ahead and they say it is ok. It doesn't mean the person at the door will let you in with it. They leave this things up to the people at the gates so if you get someone on a power trip (which you will find quite often with those event security apes) You may just get the jackass that wont let you in with a camera period. Better safe than sorry.

| I was stopped before entering Angel Stadium for a monster truck show. The girl at the gate said "No professional cameras allowed" and wasn't going to let me in with anything, but I pointed out how the website and tickets only said "No Videocameras." She changed her tone a little bit and said "Well, no professional lenses." I asked her what the park's definition of "professional" was and she replied "Um, like... nothing over 3 inches long." So I ended up having to put my 70-200 2.8IS in the car, that was pretty scary leaving it in there in a dim parking lot. |

| I'll give them a call, but I also figure now, that if i take my S2 IS, I'll spend more time enjoying the game than trying to get some great shots. |

You'll probably end with better pictures anyway. I think 50 mm primes are great, but not for sports. |

| I used to have to get cameras in sometimes to concerts etc - My big lens would go in a giant coke cup and the body in a bag of chips (Of course no food or drink in the bags any more) then I would put them on the table as I walked through the security machine and pick them up on the other side. Always worked! Just depends on how much you want the pictures! |

hmm never heard of this before last year I went into the NY Mets game with my Rebel and my 70-300 lens with no problem at all. I even told the security guard when I entered that it was a camera in the bag.

Okay..so went to the game last night. Seats were Amazing. I was pretty much right by the court. I could have said "what's up Jason Kidd" and he would have replied..."what's up Ant". I could clearly see Jay-z on the other side of the court...unfortunately without beyonce. So obviously a nice spot for photos....
Rather than take a chance I took my crippled S2 IS....didn't even bother calling the stadium. As I'm walking up to the door, it hit me...give the girl i was with the camera bag. I went in first and got frisked. She came in and all he did was ask her to open the bag and didn't even bother to look down to see what was inside. I was pissed because i could have brought my REBEL XT and he wouldn't have cared.
To top it off. I get in the game. I see the players come out...see Jay-z...pull out my S2 IS and the F*%$er wouldn't work. I was the getting the error again where my lens wouldn't come out. Worked on it all the first half and couldn't get the bastard on to take a single picture.
My friend had his camera too...a lil' point and shoot. The thing was so complicated to work, I couldn't change any of the setting and all his photos came out dark. So I just sat back, enjoyed the game, and enjoyed the company of the people i was with.
In the end, I'm quite happy my camera didn't work because I got to enjoy the game more...but I would have liked to have had some photos to remember it with. So looks like i need to buy another P&S that fits in my pocket...lol. |
