Here are some of the engagement photos that I did for a friend the other day. I was very pleased with how they turned out. Most of these are right out of the camera with little processing. I realize that I should do some PP on them also, but I wanted to upload them right now to see what everyone though. I would definitely like to hear how they could be improved if you have any time to critique them.

#1 is a little too washed out for me, but I like #3 a lot because of how much fun they appear to be having. #4 is my favorite for the "connection" that you can see between them (and I like how the background isn't important except to enhance the foreground). The colors are really nice on #5. That leaves #2... I keep thinking about that one. I like it and yet, I'm still not sure. The background is kind of interesting (the blue, the cracks, etc)... maybe that's what's bothering me, I keep looking at the background, and yet I like the expressions on their faces, so I jump back and forth.

Anyway, looks like a fun couple. Congratulations.

#4 is my favorite. I like the diagonal feel of the composition. The focus is crisp and the lighting is great. All the brown colors compliment each other. The others are good too but I just keep migrating to #4. Great job and congratulations to the couple.

Wow! Thanks for the comments. And David, thank you for the short, in-depth critique on the photos. That gives me some more to think about for the next time.

I like number 1 if the highlights were not so blown out - number 3 has great energy but a small flash to the right to fill in those shadows on the face would have really helped. Number 4 and 2 are my fav's - Nice lighting and soft closeness between the couple. Number 3 could have been the one though as it tells something about the couple (Where they live) and the fun between them - Just the lighting (Or lack of) lets it down. I am sure the couple will be very pleased.
Nice.

Comments left. Very nice set of images. You must share more.

No go to my collection of Kassie

And tell me what to do to edit these as they ARE straight from camera and I suck at Photoshop anyway.

Well, I'm not the best at the PP thing either. I took one of your images and did a few quick things to it:
original: edit:

All I did was a quick levels and curves adjustment, a softer version of the sharpen technique here, Luko's Sharpen Technique, which I found as a reference from Librodo, a gaussian blur and whiten the teeth. There are many good tutorials both on DPChallenge, and on other sites, just google portrait editing, that is what I do when I want an idea.

They are nice photos, but you are right, they are definetly straight out of the camera. Do you shoot in RAW? If not, I would totally recommend starting. You have so much more freedom and control over the final photo that way, and it forces you to learn more of the PP.
